Thread regarding Citigroup Inc. / Citibank / Citi layoffs

If not now, when?

I’ve heard for 8 years, “don’t look for a job now, the job market is bad”. If not now, when?
When the recession is over you’ll hear, “don’t look for a job now, the job market is flooded with applicants”. Four months from then you’ll hear, “don’t look for a job now, all the good ones are taken.” Four more months past that, “don’t look for a job now, its the end of the year and every company is just posting ghost postings.” A few months after that, “don’t look for a job now, the market is flooded with applicants.”

If not now, when?

@an+1jt3yxkqf makes an excellent point.

I can’t afford to leave. Flipping burgers doesn’t pay that much.

Its always the same. Someone makes a post substantiating that there’s hope and employment elsewhere and the naysayers come out to beat it back down.

I concede, you either work for Citi or not at all. There’s no other place ever in the history of employment that will ever hire you for the rest of eternity except Citi. This is your only choice. Its futile to even try or think about trying.

The best time to look for a job is when you have a job, as long you don’t make changing jobs your favorite sport.

There’s no bad timing for searching for a better job, but when the need arises and you have no option, you may have a setback and settle for whatever you can get.

i don't think anyone is saying not to look for a job. They're providing experiences about how tough the job market is.
