Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

WAH Attestation

Look at section XV. They can demand inspections of our workspaces in our homes. Is this even legal?

Of course, it's legal. We have a boatload of lawyers who review every document sent out.

That doesn't mean it's "legal".

That would imply that Cigna has never broken or law or regulation, since lawyers review everything, but of course they have.

Besides, you don't really know if someone is legal or not until a court decides it. You just weigh the risks.

I became virtual 9 months before the pandemic. Someone actually came to my home and inspected my home office. I only let the guy see my office and nothing else. It took him 5 minutes. It was ridiculous imo.

I heard it's because a few people were caught working from like a beach or hotel resort during the pandemic. Or trying to travel internationally and log in for a few hours and got caught.

The most interesting part is where it describes who this policy applies to, which is both full time and anyone who conducts any level of work at home but only full time designated wah employees have to sign it. But if you read it, effectively the policy applies to everyone unless you're not working in office. Most people are still 2 days from home.

You are supposed to have a designated space, specifically a kitchen table is not an appropriate space. But how many people being their laptops to the cafeteria?

It’s legal. However most people won’t ever get a home visit. Most bosses live in other cities. When I was on the phones WAH with United healthcare. My supervisor was local. She came to my home twice. I was WAH for 8 years. No issues with it. I don’t see Cigna doing this thou.

Was there anything new added this year to it? I know we’ve done this song and dance before but I feel like cigna just wants to keep making everything harder or convince people to quit

Of course, it's legal. We have a boatload of lawyers who review every document sent out. I've been working from home for over 15 years, and that's always been in the agreement.

Not new definitely always in the contract since I went W@H in 2012. Never in my 15 years has any manager come to my house. I assumed it was more of a local thing before they closed a bunch of claim offices. I’d say nothing to worry about. Your manager will ask you to be in camera if they are concerned of your environment.

@c1+1jt3j7gdg And you’re complaining about complaining. Must be a manager.

OP - if you get injured in your workspace at home while working, it is covered by workers comp, so employers can ask you to agree to inspections so they can avoid unsafe situation. Would they ever do that? Not likely unless you are on camera and they can see you are hording 300 cats in your home office.

No one is going to travel to your house to do a home visit. Just shut up and sign the damn paperwork. All this complaining is ridiculous. Complaining because of in office requirements. Complaining because language is in a document and has been for 20+ years and you never noticed it before. Again, no manager wants to do a home visit as much as you don’t want them there.

That's not new, I agreed to it when I first went w@h well over a decade ago.
