Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

They don’t have empathy for the common employee

Out of touch executives don’t have to think for themselves since other people do the thinking for them and they simply ignore criticism from outside of their social circle. Therefore, they never exercise their brain and they don’t have empathy for the common employee. Mark once said we should all avoid using fossil fuels and he is doing his part. My guess is that more than half of the employees at OpenText could not afford the cost to buy and maintain an electric car… maybe he should make a point to not fly in a private jet and concentrate on sending emails to employees empathizing with them rather than talking down to them, explaining his social views, claiming to be an industry expert and telling everyone what is good for the company. Hope they find a new CEO soon for the sake of everyone at the company.

Exactly what @b4+1jsyqb4p6 said.

Human are better for the planet than AI each on of us consumes less energy and produces less waste. Mark and the ELT live in the capital of the Hunger Games where the air is pure. Be damned the rest of the districts.

"Mark once said we should all avoid using fossil fuels and he is doing his part." Yeah, ok. When he and the ELT are in Waterloo they have about 6 big black Suburban SUVs that are running all day in the parking lot...

They won't meet their 50% gender diversity goals unless they fire a lot of men.

So they have empathy depending on what's in your pants.

Mark we know the board and investors are important. And many dedicated employees love OpenText. But implementing AI without a plan and without solid internal systems will ki-l the company not save it. Otherwise, What good is a used up company And how could it be worth having? Executive go crazy in congregations. They only get better one by one.

I understand that “Wall Street” wants all companies to lower their expenses using AI since it’s expensive to have people do the work a machine can do. But the transition needs to be methodical where people train the AI for years. Just like AA there is a 12 step process with AI and OpenText wants to go directly to step 12. The former president at OpenText use to preach that “Hope is not a Strategy” but Mark eliminated his position back in 2017 and now Mark’s strategy is to hope AI can just replace employees. The CEO is not expected to know what employees do and how they use the system, but I’m sure management is letting the ELT know that AI will not be able to simply replace employees. Bill Gates has a famous quote about automation: "The first rule of any technology used in a business is that automation applied to an efficient operation will magnify the efficiency. The second is that automation applied to an inefficient operation will magnify the inefficiency.“. Many employees are not given the proper tools to work efficiently so automation those processes using AI will increase inefficiency and the remaining employees who were passionate on making OpenText successful have now been slapped in the face and won’t step in to correct things. Rather they’ll be like Bartleby, the Scrivener and simply state "I would prefer not to." OpenText has had a lot of fire drills in the past, but this is one fire that many disgruntled employees may simply let burn. This could all change with a new leader that has a clear plan for the future, not just hope in AI to justify previous acquisitions.
