Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Explain Chevron's view on employees in one sentence.

Examples:

  • Steve Jobs famously said: It doesn't make sense to hire smart people and tell them what to do; We hire smart people so they can tell us what to do.
  • Tesla emphasizes a fast-paced, agile work environment.
  • Microsoft prioritizes employee well-being and productivity, offering resources like Viva Insights, Viva Goals, and other software support.

@jv and remember when he then suffered major technical issues? IT got its revenge that day. Plus he got super flustered, showing all the emotional intelligence of a toddler in the middle of a tantrum. It was so bad that they never shared the recording of that session. What a giant baby.

Doesn’t matter what you know or how well you do it. Only thing that matters is who is like by the LT and ELT. Only who you know matters. That builds every three to five years when a friend doesn’t gets a promotion but hangs around for the next reorg and s%# even harder on everyone because of the s^% they had to endure last time.

“I’ve always felt that Chevron’s view is that, with enough process, employees become a disposable, interchangeable commodity.

To management, Chevron as a company is completely and totally defined by the management, not the people who do the actual work.”

This is 100% correct. we were actually told this in multiple meetings on the MCBU field operations teams that they could bring in anyone and read a written process and do our job or they can move anyone to any location anywhere in the world and do the job with no real training or experience. This is 100% correct

Chevron publicly promotes its employees as valuable assets and emphasizes integrity, development, and inclusion, but in practice, frequent layoffs, blatant nepotism, and favoritism suggest that career advancement often depends more on personal connections than merit or performance.

We're becoming a company of hierarchy unfortunately.... No longer a meritocracy.... It's the worst possible combination of inflated PSGs combined with massive egos and poor judgement....

Right now it feels like PSG 28+ vs everyone else.

It's just a horrible place to work.

You're implying that their view on employees is severely lacking, yet you continue to work there and collect a paycheck, correct? What do you want from others for your actions in selecting an inferior employer, a cookie? Move on if you think that you are so mistreated.
