Thread regarding Crown Castle International Corp. layoffs

CFO’s First Major Decision Raises Questions

The CFO’s first big move, reverse a previous decision and retain a leader who has proven to not lead and destroyed morale of their past and present organization? The ongoing concerns about this leader’s understanding of the business, ability to provide any clear direction and history of accountability may have been missed. How? This leader has proven they don’t have knowledge or experience. A shocking decision that sends a clear, negative message to the organization and doesn’t inspire confidence. Thoughts?

Unfortunately buying an off-the-shelf product doesn't easily solve your problems. For one, you end up having to modify it greatly to get it to handle our business. It only works out-of-the-box for generic businesses (i.e. retail, bank, etc), and even then, some require a lot of modifications. Then you have to think about integrating all of those nice off-the-shelf widgets so that they talk to each other. Finally Crown has tried many times to use off-the-shelf software over the years and rarely have they been successful in regards to business based software. We could definitely downsize our in-house systems but complexities have been added in the past few years that prevent that from happening anytime soon, even with the current staff.

This department has over 50 people and has spent over $20 million in sunk costs, which they or EMT must justify. Buying an off-the-shelf product would not require this many people, and this overhead slows down the business and our team. For that team, it takes years to study options, and we never receive any products. We are still stuck using old, inferior in-house products for daily business.

There seem to be lots of D&D folks on here with huge chips on their shoulders (or a couple of people logging in from multiple browsers to upvote things). This person must be doing something right (getting results, managing up, etc), or else they wouldn’t be in position this long.

You do know that the leaders don’t read this, right?

I work for someone who I can speak freely with, right or wrong, I cant imagine not. I am so sorry for those of you who are dealing with this especially with the larger changes going on, cant be easy and for those being rude name calling, be grateful you aren't. I need to buy my leader a thank you gift.

Feedback has been given multiple times, not just by one person or department. It’s consistently met with defensiveness — demands for apologies, bad reactions, flipping the narrative to being offended by the person delivering it. Poor reactions to feedback are allegedly behind the departure announcement. No ownership or change. AI tools are being used in comments to mask writing styles and identities; this is not one person. Past posts show 50–60 people reacting in agreement. After today’s news, many are even more reluctant. Most won’t speak directly due to backlash experiences.

Here are some useful resources for this crowd:

The URL that we are at right now though is about layoffs. Let’s try to stay on topic and seek support elsewhere.

Has anyone actually tried to give this leader feedback? You sure do spend a lot of time fear mongering online.

Maybe use your super awsm writing skills to craft an email. Have a conversation with a human. Be the change you want to see. Maybe you’ll learn some perspective along the way.

Right now I see a lot of comments playing the victim.

This is shocking and horrible news. Under that dark cloud if you speak up you'll pay for it, going to Sunit or HR isn't an option. People must not have documented things because this doesn't make any sense.

Crown was so close to course correcting back on to the right path, a strong morale and united way to move forward. Unfortunate to burn the free goodwill that was being offered up with the initial plan. I feel bad for my teammates stuck under that dark cloud.

If you are all so brave and certain about your opinions… Go talk to Sunit about it.
