Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

I've observed some patterns around who is more likely to be laid off

Management roles with higher salaries compared to individual contributors

Fully remote (virtual) employees based in the U.S.

Long-tenured employees nearing retirement age

Cloud or operational roles that can be easily outsourced

anything to add?

I also fall into both the "fully remote US" since OT closed all of the California offices they got from MF and HPS. And being in the Silicon Valley, I assume my salary is higher than folks in Canada, India, and Romania.

Based on Mark’s most recent email, would you consider the US and North America layoffs as complete (for now anyway) and the suspected June layoffs being more focused in the EU region?

Mark is going bang for the layoff buck.

US employees have the highest average salary.

Do the math... lay off 1,000 making an average salary of $100,000/yr. Thats $100 million in "savings"

Average tech non manger salary in India is $24,000USD or 2,048,824 Indian Rupee.

The Indian Rupee value vs the US dollar has plummeted by 53% since 2007

The average cost to feed a family in India is under $100/month.

Many Indian with money can "hire" housekeepers, caretakers, and cooks for $100-200USD because the lower caste are basically modern slaves.

Not just the number of VPs, but the number of VP titles. VP, senior VP, Executive VP, Regional VP. Any others I'm missing?

I fall into both the "fully remote US" and "near retirement age" categories, so that checks out for me.

OpenText embraces HIPPO, where decisions are made by giving the most weight to the Highest Paid Person’s Opinion.

ADM has been laid off, as it’s being geared for sale.

Anyone given a rating of “Developing” during the annual merit process will likely be on the list.

Managers are forced to place 5-10% of employees in this group each year, even if they have truly been “Successful”, so there is always a section of staff ready to be cut.

If you are given this rating, it’s probably time to start looking elsewhere.

Quiet Workers: Employees who work efficiently but don’t engage in self-promotion may be overlooked. As a general rule sycophants always survive even when they are low performers.

Sycophants vs. Silent Workers: Office politics can favor those who maintain strong relationships with leadership, while independent workers may be more expendable. Those who are willing to break ethics by reporting and spying on their colleagues have better chance to retain their jobs. This is true is Opentext which is by definition and design a pyramid of micromanagement cascading from top to bottom.

Highly paid senior employees are always sacrificed in favor of less paid employees.
