Thread regarding UnitedHealth Group Inc. layoffs

Layoffs today was not a big shock but a big disappointment

I’ve been at the company 17 years and to be laid off because I’ve been on my new team the last 4 years was a huge disappointment although it was 6 of us that was laid off. I was one of the ones that been there there the longest on my new team so I was pretty shocked I was included in this layoff to me and I could be wrong it feels it was driven by salary and salary only I have always either received a 4 or 5 on evals so this is unbelievable!

The layoffs were also based on age. I hear more are coming

I can totally empathize with what you're feeling. It must be incredibly tough to deal with that sick-to-your-stomach sensation every day before heading to work. It's understandable to feel lost for words when your mental health is being affected in such a significant way. It seems frustrating and disheartening that those in charge don’t seem to acknowledge the impact this is having on us. You’re not alone in this struggle.

end of month benefit ends which is just a few days is beyond cruel.

Poor executive management but the worker bees take the hit.

Shareholders want a return at any cost.

To all impacted, my heart is hurting with you. I’ve been through this twice in all my years and you will get through this on the other side, probably in a much better role. If I could give some advice: take time to grieve, cry, scream and just know whatever you are felling in the coming days is NORMAL. Then, get busy networking with your former colleagues and even some of your providers that you think you’d like to be employed, now is not the time to be timid- make those cold calls to people you’ve admired but didn’t know well. Networking is the key. YOU CAN DO THIS!!!

They are pushing to offshore as much as possible. I hate my phi in the hands of foreigners, espicially India who is known for scams. I feel the federal gov should disincentives US companies with non-US employees by making those employees pay into our social security and medicare/medicaid.

It is disgusting how this company lays off the people who built the healthcare products and then leave them uninsured.

To those looking, you might consider working for a non profit. And be very willing to work in office.

That’s is where I ended up after 17 years at UHG.

And while the pay is about 20% lower, I get free healthcare and other perks.

Like a CEO with integrity.

It is salary driven. Always has been. Years doesn't mean anything when they trim the fat within the company. They can hire someone offshore for alot cheaper.

I work in Government Medicare and Retirement for Provider Engagement Team we were just told last month our team wasn’t going to be laid off cuz quite a few people wanted to do the buyout so I’m confused by all of this layoff today and they even told us our benefits end at the end of this month yea April I thought the company gives you at least 30 days and I know other workers that was laid off in 2024 at the beginning of the month that had there benefits till the end of the month so that is not fair at all! I’m beyond disappointed and shock and they way they are doing it is extremely misleading they using a town hall meeting title and if you not invited to the meeting you are the one or several of the ones that are being laid off really how clever you think coworkers don’t talk to each other a lot of us are friends! I don’t know what I’m going to do now! I have spent the last 17 years at this companies I’m in my late 50s now I have to jump in the rat race competing with fresh young graduates! I’m so disappointed!
