Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

According to the email just sent out....

1600 "exited" the company.

But... OT will add back 1,000 in strategic “locations”.

So c'mon peeps, only 600 jobs lost!

1600+ forcefully exited the company. After last July's layoffs, those positions were never filled, so they won't add back anything - it's a huge lie.

Also, if you're still at OT, I'd be very wary about sharing knowledge with overseas folks as these same people will take your job for 1/10 the pay.

My recruiter told me we can’t make any offers either. I have one position that’s been open for 12 weeks. We finally found a good candidate and now I can’t make an offer.

First, I believe the 1600 number is probably smaller than the truth. Second I doubt very much that he is going to approve 1000 replacement PIDs.

I have a handful of approved replacement positions we are recruiting for and was told by the recruiter she can’t make an offer anymore because there is a a hiring freeze.

If the past is any indication, the next step is to freeze all approved the replacement positions and then cancel those positions.

His statement about replacement is just to “soften” the blow.

Wasn't the wording of the email... "we exited 1600?" He wanted to make sure that he received the credit

Remember last year it was 1200 lost with "800" jobs created. However I never saw any in EU, if any were created it was all in India

To the question around the June off payroll group: July 1 brings changes that Mark's recent emails have hinted about including the movement of some functions to different countries. This will compress and eliminate some work groups. But those employees are needed until those changes are implemented to close out work and also share knowledge as part of the transition. Managers have been notified but not contributors because otherwise contributors would not be eager to work and share over the the next 10 weeks.

The locations Mark mentioned in his email today are target locations to run all business with the exception of field sales where employees are scattered everywhere.

To the person that said the following

“ The number is a CYA spin. That 1600 does not include the 500+ employees who are here through June 30. Some, basically managers, have already been notified that their role is eliminated as of June 30. Non managers (individual contributors) have not been notified, and will be informed mid to late June.”

How do you know managers got an email? I suspect those that are individual contributors would see signs that they are being let go? I assume we would be doing knowledge transfer? I could not really see them just keeping us around for two months to continue our normal job without us seeing any signs that our role will end.

But then again, it seems top management is out of touch with all of it anyways.

I’d just like to wish the fresh hire in Bangalore who is replacing me all the best. I’ve little doubt OT’s elite onboarding, market cachet, product innovation and deep commitment to enablement and development will support you in promptly replacing my 25 years of industry experience and customer relationships around the Asia Pacific region. As soon as those execs see you on Zoom and learn that we are AI now they’ll be itching to cut you a PO.

All hiring outside of customer facing sales roles is on hold until further notice. In total , about 9 percent of the work force is eliminated by June 30.

Low cost Knowledge Workers using fake Artificial Intelligence. Next thing is to get unpaid internships/co-ops for all positions promising money and a paid position in the future. As long as people believe in the religion of Mark B, he can keep the company going. Waiting to see him soon on an episode of American Greed.

That's nothing but FUD. I left OpenText over a year ago after 9 years w the company. Was a hiring manager for many roles that never materialized. Year after year of the same FUD. Allowed to post and interview but never to make offers because they were "frozen".

In other words, "We're going to replace you with cheaper workers somewhere else, but we care about equity. Now hurry up and finish your mandatory training and read my new book"
