Thread regarding Wells Fargo & Co. layoffs

You are a transaction

You’re not family - you’re a transaction. Your employer might act like they care, but the moment you cost them money, become a PR risk, or even just step on the wrong clause in your 1000-page contract, they’ll drop you without hesitation. Period. You don’t have to sc--w up - if the company hits hard times, you and everyone around you could be out. That “we’re all family here” line? It starts to sound like a joke.

They pay you to spend more time at work than with the people you actually care about. Your job affects your mental health more than most things in your life. And if it ever comes down to it, they will replace you.

Soooo your employer is not your family, and they’re not your friend.

They pay you to work, and your responsibility is to do that work well.

• Don’t sacrifice time with family and friends to please your employer
• Don’t give up your mental health for a job
• Don’t compromise your values just to fit in
• Don’t buy into the hustle culture hype - it’s not worth what it takes

Work is a contract - you do x and they give you y. Why anyone would go above and beyond is beyond me. If I got a mortgage with Wells at 4% and then said I want Wells to go above and beyond and only charge me 3.78% they would laugh me out the door. This is a business- they are not your friend, they are not your family. Get a dog if you are lonely.

Right, so I don't go above and beyond. It doesn't pay to go above and beyond. Why ki-l myself for a company who sh--s all over their employees, while enriching themselves? I come in, do my job, and go home. I collect a paycheck. End of story.

You are a human resource, managed by the Human Resources department. I don't think anyone is fooled by all of the internal propaganda that we are somehow special and important. A farmer only keeps the cows calm to improve the quality of the meat.

I spent countless hours sacrificing my own happiness and sanity for the department I was in because people relied on me. At some point you burn yourself out, and for what? Everyone moves on regardless. Look out for and do what's best for yourself. Don't give your life for a company on the alter of capitalism. So much more to life
