Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

OpenText U.S. Layoffs – Only 1 Week Severance Per Year Worked?

For U.S.-based employees affected by recent or past OpenText layoffs:

It looks like the severance package is 1 week per year of service, capped at 10 weeks total. That feels pretty lean—especially for those with long tenures. In other tech companies, 2 weeks per year (or more) is often the norm for employees with 10+ years.

I’m trying to understand if negotiating is even worth it.
• Has anyone successfully pushed for more than 10 weeks?
• Did you do it solo, or bring in legal help?
• In the end—was it worth the fight, or better to move on?

Appreciate any real-world feedback. Just trying to help folks make informed decisions.

Are the years at the OT acquired company included typically or is it just since date of acquisition?

not everyone got 1 week per year. I know of at least one individual that got three weeks for four and a half years.

Speak to a lawyer, many will offer the first hour at no charge to review documents and will let you know if it’s worth asking for more. They’re there to help and often times will negotiate their fees as part of the package so you’re not out of pocket. Involving a lawyer means having a 3rd party negotiate for you, you’re not suing them unless there’s a reason ie human rights

Yes, always contact an employment lawyer. 1 year, 4 years, 10 years whatever, don’t accept Mark’s garbage.
