Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Changes for EBH

I’m on a coaching and support case management team. We found out the Coaching and Support product is merging with the 24/7 Clinical Navigation Team. Instead of the 9-5, M-F job we signed up for, we have been told to prepare for working evenings, weekends and holidays - and possibly rotating schedules. CNS has more turn over because there’s a lot of micromanagement, crisis calls and queue time. Coaching teams historically have high retention - licensed clinicians have stayed for the work life balance… which will soon be a thing of the past.

In the same boat over here on C&S. What do you think things will look like in 6 months?

A job description is still pending. So far all we know is that it likely impacts all teams aside from Autism. I think it’s still being figuring out as to how Eating Disorders and Pain Mgmt teams will be fully integrated as well.

Thanks for updates OP! Do you know if this will be all BH coaching including all of the specialty teams/ those aligned with an IP team?

OP here - yeah, also planning to GTFO as soon as I can. I don't want to be in a queue waiting for a call where someone may have a we-pon to their head or may just have a question about finding a therapist. Someone asked about offshoring CM - they can’t do that because currently we have to be licensed therapists or social workers in our resident state. If they offshore, that’ll mean the end of behavioral CM. More updates include being told they won’t be backfilling any CMs that leave this merger. It’s also going to be very top heavy with middle management so I expect layoffs at that level.

As a fellow EBH CM who has worked on various provider and customer facing teams over the years want to say sorry this is happening but definitely not surprised. Hope the transition goes as smooth as it can

You will never be valued at this company no matter what your role is. If your gut feeling is telling you something is wrong, trust that and plan your exit plan accordingly.

All the “transformations” taking place within EBH haven’t solved any of the issues present to begin with. I find EBH leadership to be untrustworthy. Remember… at the end of the day, this is a for-profit insurance company that doesn’t actually care about helping people.

Personally, I plan to GTFO outta dodge as soon as an opportunity comes my way. Best of luck to you OP

I agree with the sentiment of the folks saying, at least you have a job. I don’t know case management but I think it’s something they can offshore pretty easy, so if ur paid well and treated ok I think you’ll be fine. The folks getting laid off are having a hard time finding jobs. I’ve been lied to and messed with my last 5 years at Cigna so what ur saying seems a bit petty to me but I get it.

There is no way they will ever hire another care manager. They will just give the work to the remaining ones. I’m guessing that they will combine the teams, decide the teams are redundant, and then lay off people.

I get that I’m not being laid off but I am not the only employee posting on this website currently. I am sorry if it came across as insensitive to share my disappointment - I share it to further emphasize the direction the company is heading in. I also definitely believe they expect many CMs to leave and this is their version of quiet firing. I guess if anyone is open to crisis work, there will likely be openings for that team in the coming months.

Sounds rough OP, want to switch places with me? You’re posting on a job layoff site complaining about changes to your role, not losing it. At least the decision to stay or go is yours, unlike many of us reading this.

work life balance…

Just keep in mind that work is also part of life. It’s always balanced until one is gone.
