Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

Is it always like this?

I thought I did my due diligence before joining Open Text in January. I saw there were occasional layoffs, but every company has them. This is not occasional. Ever since I started, all I have done is worry about losing my job. Is this something new? If not, how do people survive it?

I would love to know the event name for this downsizing project.

It looks to me like OT is simplifying things to make them more appealing as an acquisition themselves. Fewer offices, fewer personnel, automated processes, quick sale to a bigger outfit. I wonder if the project name reflects that...

I joined OpenText in 2018. While I've seen averaged around 5% each year, the 2020-2021 period saw pay cuts for most employees, except those in the EU, where stronger labor laws protected salaries. I can't remember any cuts during COVID period. The company operates like venture capitalists. Acquiring businesses, stripping their assets, and offshoring operations to cut costs, often at the expense of innovation and employee welfare

Many out of Addison were notified. You are not safe simply because you work at a specific location. There is literally an "event" name for this paring down of employees, and it is planned in phases from now until June 30th. The goal is to get the workforce down to as few employees as needed. Also, outside of sales,.ALL hiring is frozen.

The culture here is acquire, merge, reduce staff. Typically the company just acquired bears the brunt of the layoffs, redundancy and such. I have survived over a dozen years here and this is what it’s always been. The end goal is to lessen the OT footprint in America.

I joined in 2022 and it was like this for most of my time there, sadly. My time there ended two days ago and honestly, I feel ok about it. Three years of totally unnecessary drama. I think MB is on dr-gs. His Friday afternoon screeds are straight-up unstable.
All this is to say, let them pay you while you leverage your current role into something else at a better company. Don’t get too invested.

People from Utah, Colorado, and Waterloo were also let go. Nobody is safe. What a nice way to work, watching over your shoulder and always in a worry about who’s next. Great culture you have here Mark.

Mark announced that all new hires will be office-based, so yeah, anyone outside of Utah, Texas, Colorado, Waterloo, Belfast, and Reading should watch their backs.

"Despicable" means deserving to be hated or scorned; vile; contemptible. It implies a character or action that is so unpleasant or offensive that it evokes strong negative feelings like disgust, disdain, or hate.
In my over 30 years of working, I've never seen such cowardice from the top. If there were ever a person fitting the definition of despicable...

You didn’t complete your homework thoroughly. Next time, you’ll definitely do better. However, it might not matter since this company is the worst on Earth.

If you are in a Center of Excellence and work hard you are fine… if you are a virtual employee or not looking to work long hours you should looks elsewhere.
