Thread regarding Target Corp. layoffs

Conferences?

Does any team go to conferences anymore or have any investment in your learning? Any ways you’re keeping up with the industry at all?

My team used to do 1-2 conferences a year and it really helped us keep up with the industry. That stopped with covid and never picked back up, and I can feel us falling behind. We’re so siloed in our Target bubble.

Leadership says there’s no money but meanwhile they’re flying leaders first class back and forth to India several times a year.

Finance is engaged in layoffs right now, and asking everyone in 2-3 days a week in the near future regardless of where they live.

It is a de facto layoff for all the folks we hired in the south and coasts the past few years.

What pyramid are you on that is laying off team members or requiring remote team members to move to HQ?

My team is laying people off and telling people who had deals to work remote from their homes in California to move here or they are out. Conferences? Maybe if we took jobs at Amazon? Maybe.

Target, at least in my org, doesn't care at all about developing their team members (despite lip service from leadership). So that would be a no.
