I am in claims currently as an adjuster with Allstate. Financially, I'm on the brink of bankruptcy. In my rob role my performance is great and I'd love to apply for another higher paying position in claims.
I am terrified I will have my credit run and be denied . I cant remember if we do credit checks for hiring.
Could someone please provide some insight? Thank you!
Im the original poster. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who replied+ additionally, I used to work at Nationwide and they DID check my credit when I was there 5 years ago. They told me they only deny if there's a bankruptcy on file or 50k + in collections. I couldnt remember if allstate did it or not. However it appears I'm stuck here for the next 10 yrs lol
Cannot for the life of me imagine why a credit check could legally be used to accept or deny employment. You aren’t borrowing money from your employer you’re earning money
Who would even think they would run your credit? Like a hard inquiry??

Why would they ever run your credit as an internal for a promotion within same dept.

I just got appointed with Allstate and BK was just discharged in Feb 2025!
We clearly no longer do dr-g testing
I’ve applied to 2 roles and gotten them over the last few years and not once was a credit check mentioned. They basically just told me who my new leader was and when my start date was. When I was initially hired they did do a background check but they never told me they did a credit check and at the time my credit was absolutely shot. I’m sure you’ll be fine applying for other roles if your performance is good.
