Band 6: Unlimited PTO?!?!

I just saw several posts on the threads about a typical employee’s PTO policy that say the executive class has unlimited PTO now.

If true, that’s so tone deaf it’s incredible. Wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest.

Also, if you’re reading this from HR,
legal, or anyone working on offshoring, you know what to do. :)

@jp HIH gets 12 personal days, 18 PTO, 12 holidays and 12 sick days transportation to and from, lunch and free child care. Plus they expect to be promoted every two years.

I don't know how much PTO our leaders actually take, but I know people from other companies who have "unlimited" PTO. And it's actually worse for them because they don't have the protected hours that those with quantifiable PTO have. Like we have hours that cannot be touched (until now, of course, since they have further limited our rollover PTO hours).

Anyway, those with unlimited PTO end up taking less PTO. I'm not defending Cigna's PTO policies because I hate the fact that we don't even get sick leave (which would otherwise be protected time off to take care of ourselves, our kids, etc.) and have to use PTO for it. But just giving balance to this statement.

You don’t get it. They just took money out of your pocket if you are B5 or below. Not paying out days and limiting rollover is just their way of accelerating attrition.

B6+ employees don’t determine PTO policy. Interesting take on some of these comments. This new policy is consistent with a lot of companies.

Also, until now employees with 10+ years of service in any band could earn up to 224 hours. Exempt or non-exempt. I think years of service should entitle people to more time. That’s not changing.

Yes, people in higher bands started with more PTO regardless of years of service. But that is part of their earned compensation.

In the new policy for B6+, yes, it’s unlimited but it’s doubtful most would take more than 224 hours/year. It would be difficult. I never have and I have been here a long time. And this level has no carryover or payout either.

So for those trying to fan the flames on this topic, get the facts first. Some will complain anyway or accuse me of being a spy. I’m not. Sorry to ruin your conspiracy theory.

Unlimited PTO is not a perk you want. It almost always amounts to less time off taken than you would have if you had a set amount.

I think this is a way to avoid paying out for unused PTO for band 6+ in all states. They get a lot of PTO anyway, not sure it's going to make much of a difference.

Check Iris and look at the benefits the India employees get - twice as many holidays and PTO days as the US employees, sick & personal days, free transportation to and from work, and free meals all day long.

Most people who have unlimited PTO hate it. I don’t really understand, but most will say that it’s false and they actually get to take less PTO than they did when they had a set number of days. I don’t mean this related to Cigna; this is just a common complaint I see across any job board.

Individual cases don’t count. As general rule, band 6+ hold more responsibility, and best of all, they make up the rules. Definitely not wanting to make rules that limit themselves!!

It’s incredible for people to think that band 6+ employees don’t take time off. I’m here to tell you they take time off all the time! They leave early on Friday all the time. The look as if their always working is untrue, they are hanging out and highly probable answering from their work phone. I’m not saying they don’t work hard but to think the people in power are working their a$$ off is so untrue.

Here’s a true story, a Senior Executive gets hired and after 3 months of working she takes maternity leave (nothing wrong with that) BUT she leaves for 6 months and it was all paid! Do you think that is fair to everyone else given that we only get a few weeks!!!
