Chevron Needs Culture Change

This place is a he-l hole of poor decisions and sh-----g on good workers. This place can get sc--wed. Any good workers should go where they are valued and can feel worthy. I'm looking for jobs and it is tough, no doubt... I think I am going to consider a significant pay cut to find a job I am happier at. Any advice for making a transition to less pay less difficult and more sustainable? Thank you..

Watch RM talk about the Human Side of Human Resources. She talks about authentic leadership. Really??? Look what she did to Chevron and the disastrous culture she left as a legacy. She lacked self-confidence so she destroyed others- that was the reality of her psychological safety approach. She is right about one thing in the video; nobody has had anything nice to say about her to their family.

Culture change is coming! Now that RM is gone, MG and the mean girl club is in charge of HR! They will fix this company for sure! Just wait, they are just distracted on cutting HR by 20% right now but they will fix culture once Chevron is competitive with Exxon. Maybe when rehiring positions it will matter because it becomes apparent the cuts are going too deep and Engine doesn’t fix anything other than lead to the biggest cultural issues! This is exhausting and pointless, let the bonfires begin, focus will never be on doing what’s right or needed. The Board and ELT need to wake up. Copy catting other business models is weak, especially when you allow the companies future to be led by consultants suggestions and guidance. Aren’t the top leaders supposed to be the smartest and brightest minds in the industry? They seem more like place holders than leaders.

@fw+1jrynydeh painting the entire workforce as having been in the slow lane for years is insulting to those of us in Operations and Maintenance who work our a**es off keeping platforms, plants and wells running. Obviously you are an office jockey who wouldn't know what hard work was if it punched you in the face.

I work for Chevron and I have never called a Chevron employee a basement dweller. I respect the people work with, I believe Chevron hires some of the most intelligent people I have ever worked with. After we get a job, the management expects too little of people and does not allow the majority of the people to maximize their potential. This may be one reason why the ELT is hiring employees in India, because they are willing to lower the expectations of the employees and pay a lower wage to get less from the employees.

Whenever my comments are not popular I always claim that it's Chevron HR team or bots or some surreptitious team of paid agents of some sort conspiring to discredit me. That's a good go-to when my comments are just useless snowflake rants with no substance and most serious employees have no time for and don't care to read. I doubt anyone really believes that, though.

The easy, simple and effective change most likely to improve our performance is to strictly implement pay for performance for the execs and position advancement based on competency for all. Take all other considerations off the table. Accomplish your responsibilities with excellence or get replaced, demoted or released. Make more money for the corporation. improve efficiencies, move the metrics forward and you get raises and promotions. This company could benefit from using a bit more hard-nosed approach across the board. From the mailroom to the boardroom, achieve your goals and be highly productive or be gone.

Life is so much better post Chevron. There are companies that have great culture where you can feel valued without constant fear of layoffs. When interviewing, ask the right questions, look up company reviews.

Stop putting a price tag on your mental health. Chevron su-ks now and is so not worth the sacrifice.

I agree with OP. There is one particular cr-ppy leader who puts good workers down in front of others to make herself look better, makes impractical decisions that don’t work well in the field, is inconsistent in decision making, is hardly ever available, is constantly sent to “leadership training”. This person demonstrates some of the poorest leadership skills ever seen. She’ll probably be the next CEO. It’s depressing.

The ELT is changing the culture by moving the jobs to India. India is a culture change in the direction of less commitment to the employees. They want to implement standard procedures where the staff can be replaced easier like standard parts in the "Cotton gin". This will keep wages lower and less 30 year retirees....

There are plenty of good jobs out there. The challenge with Chevron (insular thinking, atrophied skills) isn't specific to just the organizational architecture. It also applies to the people.

Market perception is that Chevron employees are lazy and lack commercial/operational skills. The onus is on you to prove to the hiring manager that this doesn't apply. Continuing education, differentiated skills, side projects, etc. are ways to show that.
