Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Quiz the puppet masters!!

I want to highlight the issue of our reduced store hours, particularly for those taking on extra responsibilities. While your dedication is appreciated, increased effort during these limited hours may lead to unrealistic expectations.

It's concerning how management thinks they can run the store effectively with only 350 to 500 hours per week. We should raise this during our visits, even if our regional leaders prefer silence. Let's ask Thomas and Thom to review the numbers and consider how they would manage under these constraints. Perhaps they could even run the store for a day to see the challenges firsthand.

It's vital that we advocate for ourselves on this issue.

I urge anyone reading this to get their resume together and start looking. Belk is holding on by a wing and a prayer. Store manager of 22 years here, left in 2023.

Ditto. Our store is the same except for no shoe person. The one person scheduled in beauty covers all of center core. And ladies dept does not even open until 11 or 12. I am feeling the same way. I hate it and can barely get through the day anymore. Needless to say I am getting my resume together and looking elsewhere.

I have always liked retail because for me it was a mostly happy atmosphere with shoppers enjoying their day having some retail therapy. However, This company has caused me to hate retail because of the way it is managed now. Here we are the week before Easter and we are down to the barest of floor coverage we’ve ever had. No one likes their job anymore because of the ridiculous expectations. There is no help , managers won’t even help ring. They act irritated if you call them for help. We have a full service shoe dept with ONE person all day running back and forth for shoes while also expected to ring clothing and other items. Running a shoe dept that way will never work. Well that person is leaving because of the abuse they are taking from customers, no help on the floor and the absurd expectations. Big surprise there!
Shut it down Belk if you can’t do any better!
Thanks for allowing me to vent.

it;s the owners kkr & hein park, the rvp, gvp, and top brass just do what kkr and hein park want, they are puppets, and in return, get a hefty paycheck. but they all know very well the stores are trainwrecks and all that matters is the bottom line. period. this is the epitome of a toxic workplace.

You are correct. The company is going under and while it is wise to get your resume together, I will still speak up if confronted with any issue concerning what is or isn't done.

350-500 hours for a big box department store? Every alarm bell possible should be going off that something is terribly wrong. I would get that resume ready tomorrow if Belk is your main source of income.

The company is going under. It’s very very obvious. They’re not gonna give more hours and it’s only gonna get worse. Get out now!!! That’s all you can do
