Thread regarding Elevance Health (Anthem) layoffs

Current Employees Blocked

Just wanted to give everyone a bit of information, you can take it or leave it. Please no ugly comments. I am a current Elevance employee and with the recent RIF’s, over half of my team has been laid off. I have been with Elevance for almost ten years and have 15 years of experience in my role. I have gotten passing scores on all annual evals and have even received department awards. For the last year I have been applying to jobs in other departments because I am desperate to get off my team. I apply for jobs I am overly qualified for and within an hour I get a rejection email saying they went with someone who has more experience. I couldn’t understand why I kept getting rejected for jobs that did the same exact thing as my current role.

Last week I got an invitation to interview for another team. Again, same type of role as I currently do. Had the interview today. At first the Elevance HR person was so nice to me. They were friendly and said repeatedly what a great fit my background was. The interview had lasted a while and then they asked me to describe my current role. So I explained that I was with Elevance and what I did. It was like a door slammed shut. Their attitude instantly changed and they were angry. They asked me if I was currently with Elevance and that they wished they had known this before the call. (It was listed on my resume and in my application). They scolded me for not applying on the internal careers page. I explained that I look at the internal page weekly but this position had not been listed on the internal page. They were quiet for a few seconds and then said, “that’s correct it was not posted there”. They then made a comment about how they didn’t know how my application made it through since I am an internal employee and told me to never again apply for positions on the external page. They told me they could not proceed with my application because I am an internal employee and were quite rude. Just five minutes before this they had been so sweet and saying they would be forwarding my information to the hiring manager. However the second they found out I was an Elevance employee, it all changed.

I know in the last town hall they mentioned the layoffs and that they would be searching for “outside talent”. I guess they don’t want their current employees moving to new roles, or at least my department doesn’t want that.

When I was a hiring manager, I had my own subtle "tests" I did on the assigned recruiter to see how competent they were (many were, but many were not - especially recruiters who were outsourced). If the recruiter was on the ball, I knew I could trust them to make sure and screen correctly and only give me the best candidates. If the recruiter "failed" my competency tests, I knew I was going to spend more time looking at applicants myself because I couldn't trust the recruiter. I had to tell them, if it's close or if in doubt, pass them along to me. That wasn't my job, but I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on good candidates or wasting time interviewing candidates who shouldn't be in consideration. It sounds like the recruiting process has only gotten worse. I'm glad I don't have to play that game anymore.

It's not a real company. It's all fake. It's really a money laundering front for the Houthis. SLT are not real, they are cyborgs with tiny micro processers. Thier programming is limited.

Talent acquisition is a joke. Over the past few years, I’ve run into several issues. Interviewed two months before, and was about to resign when the hiring manager reached out and asked if I had been contacted by recruiter. They had told them two weeks prior to make me an offer. I had to reach out and act like I didn’t know. The recruiter said they were trying to pin down a transition date. Really?!? That’s d-mb asf. Then, couple years ago, I had to apply and interview for a title raise which then disqualified me for my merit increase, which no one mentioned. I had Exceeded expectations for annual review, which should’ve bumped me up. Mind you, this was after interviewing for lead and mgmt for the exact same team, which went to others with no experience in the dept. Then, get a higher position, only it got pulled due to rif and reorg. Got tons of rejections for the same position and below. Two recruiters used the same bot to send additional application questions, so the bot got stuck, and the recruiters were unresponsive and rejected my application. Ended up taking a demotion to get out from a mgr who was discriminating and vindictive. Started applying out before my year was up. End up interviewing for two advancements, those recruiters didn’t even use the same process. Got picked for one the day after interviewing for another. I was out, and the recruiter’s backup only emailed work. They didn’t reach out through my personal email or phone. So Monday, I got offered the position at MRP. Was told it was max when I tried to negotiate for a little more. This was a salary position, and they were offering $2 less per hour than the other position, which that was still hourly with OT and was in the same area I had almost 10 years experience in. Soon as I was made offer, got rejection for the other that they were going with another candidate. That was funny considering the mgr had said they just started the process, and I got rejected in less than a week. So I accepted, and then the other position got posted again and the other mgr said that email was a glitch and they had to repost the opening. ABSOLUTELY AWFUL TALENT ACQUISITION!

When an employer shows you what they think of their employees, believe them.

Speaking as external talent. I would not work there. Why should I use my major league experience on a minor league team.

Pathetic way to treat your employees but since they don't care it's par for the course.

Thats something new ! Now theres something similar happened to me recently . I am an external candidate working with another company but before that i was with elevance for few years. I am looking for jobs and applied to Elevance from the carrers site as external employee.
I got rejected from almost 30/40 positions saying Elevance is highly competitive, they went with another candidate and bla bla. But there was one position i finally got an interview with. I talked to HR and they forwarded my resume to HM. The date wS fixed for interview and it was about half hr left for the interview i got an call from HR saying “ Elevance is no longer accepting external candidates” and they got this news just now ( that moment i was waiting for the interview). They cancelled my interview.

I didnot stop, continued applying for positions and later i even got couple interviews. I alnot sure why i was told they arenot hiring sxternal candidates if the positions are specifically opened in external site.

That wax a weird case !!!!

There have been a lot of riffs this past year. I suspect some of the reason you’ve been rejected was that some of those internal positions were already going to be filled with people who were handpicked or were riffed but had friends helping them get hired. Competition for internal positions is pretty high right now. They have to post a position but that doesn’t mean it is truly an open position especially if they already know who they are going to hire.

No, my manager was notified of the interview. That was not the issue. It also listed no where on the application that the role was only open to external candidates.

Current associates have to notify their current manager of an interview prior to the interview. Usually the recruiter takes care of this process. I wonder if that has something to do with what happened here?
