We’ve got a kid who just joined this year and he’s not even worried about layoffs. He knows he’s probably safe. Meanwhile, I’ve been here over 15 years, and my blood pressure’s through the roof because I know my longevity puts a target on my back. That’s where we’re at.

Has anyone gotten 1:1 invites for tomorrow?
Worked for illumina for 10 years, laid off 1.4 years ago. You could see after Flatly left, the company spiral down the toilet! Desouza was the worst thing that could have happened to illumina and their purchase of Grail was A big scam! You’ll see them in a fire sale soon ! Their new Hiseq is a pile of po-p!
They are not targeting older employees, but a budget. Older employees are often more senior, hence the correlation without direct causation. But there are plenty of senior employees who are relatively new to the company. Will be informative to see how many VPs are let go. Illumina sure has way, way more VPs than a company of this size needs. In most other companies VPs have a span of 1000+ people. At Illumina almost all VOs have a span of less than 100. What a joke.
When they cut me I was told they are ”sacrificing” senior levels so that they can grow the team with more junior levels.
I wonder if ‘Taste of Illumina’ will taste like failure, complacency, arrogance, and toxicity. Post Jay Flatley’s tenure, the entire company has become a shell of its former self. Sure, it couldn’t have kept the same pace of growth forever. But it went from being one of the best companies in the world to being a laughing stock sh-t-show. It seems like Jacob is over his head. But we also need to acknowledge that the biggest reason for the downfall was Francis.
I was the newest on my team and one of only a few in my 20s and I was the first to get axed
Why do you think that?
I think they are targeting older employees. Yes,completely out of touch
And they just sent out an invite for taste of Illumina May 15th, can they be any more disconnected?
