It’s very normal. It’s when you skip your manager and have a one on one with their manager. Gives their manager insight into what they may not otherwise have a clue about.

These used to be a big deal a few years ago it was the thing. Most times a complete waste of time since if you are smart you will not tip your hand about anything work related since the political landscape is unknown. So the conversation ends up strained smalltalk. 6 mos later they disappear completely. Last iteration they were optional and every one skipped the skip level. A nice idea in theory but in reality there is no updside for any parties involved. Unless you know the political alliances of all the players in the game just avoid at all costs if you can

It's a meeting where you chat with your supervisor's boss, just to chat about how things are going without feeling pressured by your supervisor
