Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

I suggest getting your resume out and applying

This is the biggest heads up you will ever get. Don't start thinking "it'll never be me, they need me too much", it'll hurt you even more once it happens.

Remember it's all about numbers to them, not performance or knowledge. All Mark has to do is sign a piece of paper without even looking at it, you have been pre-selected already. If you're from India you're 100% safe because the salary-to-work ratio is very small. Mark wants literal slaves that bust their backs for him not workers with actual lives and feelings. I'm actually glad some people from India are straight up leaving on their own to work elsewhere better instead of working in Mark's circus for peanuts.

I have a feeling they will try very hard to get rid of remote/virtual workers. Mark doesn't like it when he can't physically spy on you, it makes him upset.

Instead of being a minion I say try your luck, you might find something way better than being stuck in Mark's dungeon waiting for the hammer to drop randomly.

And don't expect a severance package either. They will use every tactic in the book to keep this as cheap as possible. Mark needs his new Ferrari.

Bumping for being 100 percent on point. OP is @1cg+1jqwpjjtw.

But from a job stability perspective, people forget that Opentext is a highly profitable >organization.

What? OT is hemorrhaging money. Their debt-to-income is ~1.5. Giant company credit card. The stock chart over the past 5 years tells the story.

Wonder if they will implement a badge out process in all offices. Most you still just badge in. And they may start tracking VPN usage to see if you are working outside of an office.

As it relates to the new time tracking, I asked my leadership team what’s being looked at and they didn’t seem to know. I did ask around and one person from HR told me that they’re only tracking whether you were in the office three days a week or not. Although they mandate Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday presents, it looks like you’re not tracking it right now.

As mentioned in a previous post, those who had options have already left. Those who remain are not here by choice, but due to a lack of alternatives.

We have been in a recession since 2023, and every day I read about reductions in force and layoffs affecting thousands of employees in the information technology sector. Reuters recently reported:
“Pentagon to end $5.1 billion in contracts with Accenture, Deloitte, and others.”

I don’t believe the staff at OpenText have the luxury of resigning. They are essentially sentenced to remain in the stagnant swamp of OpenText until, with a bit of luck, they regain their lost freedom — by being laid off.

This is all you need boys...

Then just coffee badge the mandatory 3 days and relax. OT is a breeze.

"while others might be competitors trying to influence perceptions of the company."

The CEO seems to be doing a bang up job of that all by himself.

Run it through an AI detector and find out for yourself. The truth is you’re a used up curmudgeon that sees the negative in life. People like you are the most vocal, but the truth is you only represent the small minority of the Opentext population.

I like my colleagues and my colleagues like me. Most of us like the company.
Most of us are happy to stay here because we are competitively paid and treated mostly well.

Sure, we could probably make more money somewhere else. Sure we could find another company that treats their employees better. But the grass isn’t always greener around the other side.

The truth is, if you’re not happy, then leave.

Another AI generated response, this time with commands such as, "Make it appear more folksy, from a more personal point of view. Add in some guilt tripping where the 'author' appears to be some sort of victim who should be deserving of sympathy instead of sussing out that this entire 'conversation' involves AI on one end."

That snippet you’re referring to was not generated by generative AI.

I’m sure hundreds of Opentext employees read these messages but only a handful actually take the time to write in.

What becomes quickly evident is that those that do write are typically the employees that feel the most aggrieved. And so I thought it was important to counter balance, all the negativity with a dose of reality.

Opentext has a lot of flaws. Tons of horrible team members, horrible VPs and directors. OpenText has a ton of old antiquated tech stacks. Too many products. Unhealthy pipeline.

But from a job stability perspective, people forget that Opentext is a highly profitable organization. You’re absolutely correct in saying that they fire too quickly and hire too slowly. Many teams have been significantly and chronically under staff for 4-5 years.

if there are any layoffs, I don’t believe they’ll be targeting virtual employees. I believe they will be targeting those employees who aren’t producing enough output. I believe they’ll be targeting employees that don’t fit into the mindset and strategy of Opentext. They’ll be firing employees in locations that are no longer strategic for the company.

Trying to scare, everyone simply doesn’t make sense. Opentext currently has 25,000 employees. Unlike most competing large organizations, although they’ve done continuous layoffs over the past couple of years they’ve always been small single digits in number. They haven’t undertaken massive double digit percentage layoffs like Microsoft, Amazon, Google or Shopify.

If you’re unhappy, then absolutely you should go out and look for another job. But stop pi----g in everyone else’s coffee.
