Is the warning sign that you’re next up on the chopping block a consistent increase in productivity requirements, which are unrealistic and unreachable, or a decrease in productivity requirements, so that your overall output is easier for someone else to absorb?

I can tell you that the 9 Box was not even a consideration in the LARGE group layoff my area just sustained. People in the top 3 and bottom 5 were both let go and kept. It pretty much was random. I just assume they rolled dice

You can't see your own, only your manager and up.

The warning signs are:
Poor relationship with mgr.
Your mistakes have caused your mgr’s mgr frustration.
You are the weakest member of your team in important areas.
You aren’t assigned priority work.
You are at the upper end of your pay band.
Your mgr isn’t well regarded.
You don’t rank well in the potential leadership section of the 9 Box.
You push back a lot.
