Thread regarding Open Text Corp. layoffs

The layoff now blocked

I’m not sure if anyone else has noticed, but this site is no longer accessible from any OpenText machine. You can’t reach it through the VPN, on the internal network, or even from home if you’re using an OpenText device.

I’m curious what prompted this unannounced change. Did an executive come across this site and escalate it to Legal, who, under Mark’s direction, determined that the site contained information considered too risky or damaging for the leadership team?

Fix the issues Mark instead of blocking the information.

The focus of the layoffs might be more on US folks than the other countries like Canada or India because the salaries are much higher for employees. We will see how brave Mark is feeling.

I'm surprised by a lot of these responses. OT is a company where you can just buy a mouse mover, stick it in your USB port, and keep your Teams status Green and you'll be fine. People have been doing this for years, since well before the 2020 covid thing. Sure, eventually you might get laid off, but really, compared to real tech companies, OT is a breeze. And 3 days per week is nothing. Seriously you cant come in 3 days per week? You used to come in 5 days per week only 5 short years ago. If i were you guys I would just relax, stick in the mouse mover, and sail on until your number finally drops in the spreadsheet, or your VP decides to make a move to show how tough they are. Lets face it boys, OT is not selling anything of any particular value that cant be gotten elsewhere, and none of the jobs i know of here are rocket science. Just insert your mouse mover and sail into the sunset.

Rumours internally say that Madhu was shown the door because she believed in remote work, but Mark didn’t.

I can vouch for the fact that NO ONE in the current ELT has the b-lls to speak candidly to MarkB. Some of the former execs, yes, a few did. If you want to know why an executive left .... it was probably because they said something Mark didn't like. Something that would be totally normal in a normal company.
Mark does not take constructive criticism, dissension, suggestions or anything other "you're brilliant, I agree!"
He's known for hiring experts and not listening to them.

Only id--ts would access this from within the OpenText corporate network.

Trump’s tariff policies were reportedly driven by the reluctance of those around him to provide honest feedback. Rather than focusing on what was in the best interest of the country, they prioritized managing the president’s ego.

A similar dynamic is said to exist at OpenText. Within the senior leadership team, and even at the executive leadership team level, there appears to be limited willingness to speak candidly with the CEO. Some senior leaders are believed to withhold information or shape narratives to appear more favorable, even when doing so may not serve the company’s long-term interests.

This raises a broader concern about cultural alignment in leadership. There’s a perception that Canadian executives are more invested in contributing to the sustainable growth of a Canadian company, while some American executives may treat such roles as stepping stones—positions to be held until the next opportunity arises.

What is worse is that Mark behavior seems to be cascading downwards. Even my manager that used to be open to suggestions are now stating that he does not want to listen to anything questioning his plans during meetings.
There goes the old days of well thought out plans.

"However, it has since devolved into something far worse—a totalitarian surveillance state. I truly don't envy anyone still trapped in that toxic environment and fear-based culture."
Amen brother/sister.

It sure sounds like Mark B = "our dear leader"
Can't say or do anything that goes against the state, um, company. I can't believe they are wasting resources monitoring sites like this. How about keeping a few people on board to do something innovative or productive instead of monitoring and snitching? They are probably. hiring bots for Glassdoor to get the score up.
Thank goodness I can't be fired - I left long ago!
Trust me, anyone still there, the air tastes better here on the other side.

Mark should be fired.

He only wanted the Micro Focus security products(ArcSight Fortify, SPI Dynamics, and Voltage), but the Micro Focus board held steady and told him all or none of the company.

He foolishly pushed forward with misguided promise of $400 million in savings across the two companies.

That savings never happened. So Mark did what he always does, cut employees.

The layoffs will continue until $400+ million in savings is finally found.

But look at the stock price... down down down

I just know Mark is rubbing his tiny sweaty hands knowing he's about to fire 2000 people with zero heads up. He already has some stupid cringe e-mail queued up to send to the rest of them about values and loyalty. "We had to make a very hard decision today" - just know it was actually very easy, Mark loves doing it. Ever since he took over all he's been doing is making people leave or firing them.

I initially thought the environment at OpenText was simply characterized by severe, excessive micromanagement during the time I was there. However, it has since devolved into something far worse—a totalitarian surveillance state. I truly don't envy anyone still trapped in that toxic environment and fear-based culture.

Of all the hardships a person might endure in life, nothing is more painful than spending your precious, limited time in a place or with people you dislike.

Good luck to those who remain, and may you find a path to something better.

I don’t know how experienced you are so I won’t be too harsh but you should never access sites like from a corporate network, through a corporate VPn or from corporate equipment (cell, tablet or laptop).

The company could use access to this site as a reason to fire you.

I noticed it yesterday. But it would be wise to just use your own equipment, just to be safe.
