Manager Gone - Direct Reports Next?

I manage a small team of about 4 people in Evernorth Tech and just learned I am being moved under another director as my current boss is being let go. My three peers and their teams (similar sizes) are instead being moved up to report directly to my old manager's boss and no idea if they'll be re-org'd later. Apparently our new manager is getting expanded responsibilities to make taking us on "make sense". He has very little experience with what we do day to day and will need to learn quickly if we stay longer term.

My question is simply, should I prepare my team for the worst? Or is being moved under a leader when my peers weren't a good sign? I don't want to lie to my team if they should be updating their resumes.

“Thank you and I suppose I will try to warn them without causing unnecessary panic. Maybe I'll tell them to check this site out and make their own minds up.”

That’s not a good advice. This site will increase the anxiety for some people who can’t discern the rumor and truth

I wish there were more managers with integrity like you. I would tell them to be prepared just in case but hope for the best

This scenario happened to two teams last year in my area. My manager took on a new small team he had no familiarity with and they kept the manager but fired the reports and eventually replaced them with a single HIH resource. That manager now has most of the responsibilities of his axed team and is struggling. Similar story for the other team, but they kept one of their five FTEs and added an HIH.

In all honesty, it doesn’t really matter what you tell them. We all have to just ride it out and hope for the best.
