Thread regarding U.S. Bank layoffs

Toxic Favouristism

Does anyone else here deal with blatant favouritism from your manager to other people on your team? I’ve never felt so disrespected, and when it affects your performance review and salary opportunities, then it really crosses the line. How do you address this with your manager in a constructive manner? My understanding is this is an issue across the organization, so not sure how to move the needle.

OP: I’m sorry you’re experiencing this. If it makes you feel any better, I’ve also experienced this here, with managers favoring people 15-20 years junior to me in experience. I think they just like ‘yes men’ around them who don’t question them or know how incompetent they are. You may be a threat if you know more than your manage here. 😂 While managers choosing pets does happen at other companies, this is by far the worst place I’ve seen it in my many years as a professional. It’s not just you and you aren’t imagining the effed-uppedness. Hang in there and view it as a paycheck until you can move on to something better.

This is not US Bank specific this is everywhere. Your network is your net worth. They call it climbing the ladder and it applies in every company. If you do not have connections and influence your career will only go so far. I've seen people hired because they knew someone and the same goes for promotions.

The Bank used to be a great place to work but has gone downhill due to two reasons - true talent has left for better places leaving only mediocre brown nosers who's only claim to fame is crazy long tenure and nepotism hiring is rampant with second to third rate ex Amazon/JPM etc coming over with their equally terrible "leader".

The entire organization has become a toxic place to work. Look around and you will see a lot of favoritism especially in technology. People seem to get ahead by su-king up rather than doing good work. HR isn’t helpful -- in fact, going to them can put you at risk during layoffs. The environment is full of unqualified, negative, and backstabbing people. How do you resolve this? Either by putting up with it or finding a new job in this pathetic market.
