Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Is Chevron Sociopathic?

Here is how chatgpt defines a sociopathic company. Let’s discuss!

  1. Lack of Empathy

• Employees are treated as expendable.
• Layoffs, demotions, or relocations are delivered with no emotional intelligence.
• Personal struggles are ignored or punished, not supported.

  1. Manipulation of Truth

• Senior leadership spins reality to serve their goals.
• Important decisions are obscured in corporate jargon or “strategic ambiguity.”
• You hear one thing, but the opposite happens behind the scenes.

  1. Ruthlessness in Pursuit of Profit or Power

• Ethics take a back seat to shareholder value or growth.
• Environmental, legal, or social harms are shrugged off if they’re “within compliance.”
• The ends justify the means—regardless of the human or societal cost.

  1. Lack of Accountability

• Leaders never take responsibility for mistakes.
• Blame flows downward, credit flows upward.
• Toxic culture is protected or denied, even when called out.

  1. Performative Caring

• Lots of talk about values, inclusion, wellness—but actions say otherwise.
• Initiatives exist for PR, not real change.
• “We care” campaigns feel hollow to the people actually doing the work.

  1. Fear-Based Culture

• People stay silent to protect their jobs or reputations.
• Dissent is punished, not welcomed.
• Promotions are based on obedience, not integrity or competence.

  1. High Tolerance for Toxic Leaders

• Bullies, narcissists, and manipulators rise to the top.
• HR protects high performers, no matter how they treat people.
• Whistleblowers are isolated or pushed out.

Bonus: Corporate “Sociopathy” Vocabulary Red Flags
• “Decision rights” (often means centralizing control)
• “Resource optimization” (usually signals layoffs or people treated like widgets)
• “Right-sizing” (euphemism for cutting headcount without saying it plainly)

What You Might Feel Working There:
• Numb, disillusioned, or constantly second-guessing your own values.
• Caught between doing what’s right and what’s rewarded.
• Like you’re gaslit by the system you’re supposed to trust

I made it through half of your post. I accepted the job offer from chevron years ago. I didn’t know if I would stay and if I did I didn’t know how long they would keep me. Life is a gamble. Companies make tough decisions. You sound like an emotionally weak individual. ‘’News was not administered with emotional intelligence’’ Are you kidding me? Life is tough sounds like you’ve avoided struggle most of your life. Adversity builds character. I feel sorry for you and the many like you bit* and complaining on this site. All I can say is your parents failed you.

The "Human Energy" is now in India. Chevron will need to sponsor cricket matches and marathons in Mumbai now :)

I believe the current CVX employees are sociopathic. They were not in the past.

I am being asked to do more to show how committed I am. How much can one person take on extra and additional work load? Might be better to just leave and have mental peace of mind.

Wow! Chevron Damage Control works on Sunday! Or is it just one person writing the sniveling and doing the upvoting/downvoting with bots? Throw in some politics to derail the threads as well.

I remember 20 years ago how much Chevron management talked up their employees with all the "Human Energy" talk.

I guess that's gone, gone , gone.

There are a lot of people who would love to have a job that is well compensated and not run by sociopaths who are in denial.

I worked for a manager who said "Come payday both you and the company are equal. Nobody owes anybody anything." Need to keep things in perspective.
The reason you work for a large, soulless, bureaucratic company like CVX is because your a professional providing a service and you are well compensated for that. There are a lot of people who would love to have a job like yours and work for a well established company.
