Thread regarding Chevron Corp. layoffs

Things are looking up!

All of the hiring we're doing in Bangalore must mean the company's doing great! Right?

I dont know how they think ENGINE will succeed, India IT should have been red flag. Even outsourcing more financial bookkeeping when everyone just complains on how poor their work is done seems incomprehensible. How can our books meet SEC requirements?

It’s wild to think they’ll find the same level of talent for less in India. Most tech professionals in the U.S. have been exposed to the latest technologies, top-tier training, and major global projects. Many are in their prime, both in skill and age. They’ll be waking up soon.

MSPs in "cost advantaged geographies" already create more work than they do. Mind boggling that we're doubling down on it.

Cutting 75% of staff and retaining the wrong staff is infinitely better than starting a tech center in a third or second world country. Source: experience

If Chevron cut the right staff it could cut 50% with no impacts. But Chevron leaders rarely cut the right people

It will fail from a technical perspective. The CTC leaders in charge of hiring are hiring at random, very little thought into it and have no clear understanding of what is needed. Even the role descriptions they wrote for hiring were clearly done by ChatGPT. They are only hiring to fill quotas they were given and impress their management.

If you knew what goes on at most Chevron offices, remotely and the level of productivity, you would conclude that Chevron could cut 50% of it's staff and achieve the same results.

I am from a different company that started an India tech center. It is shocking that companies continue to create these tech centers considering the realities. Companies would be better off just cutting 75% of their US staff and not replacing. India brings negative efficiency.

Praying that ENGINE fails. Shell is already bringing back some of the roles because of high turnover and quality.
