Thread regarding Highmark Health layoffs

Will the next big layoff will be May 8?

Since the WARN Act applies to layoffs affecting more than 500 employees within a 90-day period, and the last major RIF occurred on January 30, May 8 seems like the most likely next date. Best of luck to everyone.

I agree with the whole situation with India, I'm wondering why Trump doesn't do something about keeping big companies like highmark from farming out work and laying off Americans. I feel like they should form out the executives jobs especially CEO presidents and vice presidents who make millions of dollars a year why don't they cut their pay and keep the American employees employed. I am one of the unfortunate that lost their job at the beginning of the year which actually coincides with the death of my husband. So not only did I lose my husband and his income but I also lost my own job. Maybe somebody should do something about companies like this

@22x buffalo is remote. The new office that was leased is not big enough to have all the remote employees return to the office. Highmark hates Buffalo. Eventually the work will be tranferred overseas.

We'll see if this holds true—good luck to everyone this week!

I am guessing that Buffalo will be nothing more than a sales and marketing office. All other functions will be gone in short order.

Union contract is up the end of May in the Buffalo office … more days than not we are sitting with no claims to process. We ask where is our work but hmmmm none seems to know. They never wanted us and it has been 2 years of he-l.
We will be out on the picket line but i dont think it will matter. I love my union sisters and brothers and it’s sad for us to go down like this but we will be fighting til the end

Thryve taking on work independently is a joke. It take 3 Thryve people to do the work of 1 person onshore. But upper management doesn't care because with the money translation they are only paying Thryve 7k to 10k a year. When they arr cheap why does uppermanagement care if they can't do their job. lol as long as the CEO and Mick keep getting their bigg fat bonuses that's what's important right.

I'm wondering if the Buffalo office considered being remote?

Not necessarily May 8. They laid off 200 on 1/30, 77 on 2/23, and maybe?? 50 in march. Still not at the 500 threshold.

Reading a few comments regarding age and the work force is really old…. Grow up you silly children. You won’t realize your own judgement until karma slaps you right across your face.

Now that I was ‘removed’ recently, I’m living my BEST life being out of that toxicity.

...and I agree with EVERYTHING you said about loyalty in companies being evicted all over in today's world...and, yes, I agree that if there is no loyalty, then, he-l yeah, get your training and experience and move on to new opportunities and a bigger check. Highmark is PATHETIC in its pay raises and bonuses (read: the WORKERS do all the WORK; the Managers and above get all the credit and bigger bonus factor/percentage). It's a shame that the world has transitioned to that. But, even with the loyalty mindset diminishing from the older CEOs and executives, it is disappearing even MORESO exponentially (read: altogether) in the younger mindset who are climbing the ladders to the C-suites, and they seem to be taking it out on ALL the "boomers" who are just as disappointed in the leadership as you are.

Younger workers move on after a couple years because the days of being rewarded for loyalty are long over. Management across all companies in this country no longer incentivize staying in one job for decades. Those days are long over. The only way for most people to advance their careers or even to just get a meaningful raise is to jump between employers. What are people supposed to do? You're not a martyr because you stay in a job for 5 or 10 or 20 years with no chance of advancement and a pathetic 2% (or less!) raise every year.

Not that companies ever really cared for their employees, but the fact is that relationship is now colder and more ruthless than it has been in living memory, so I would say, be thankful you got to build a career when things were better in that regard.

As a "boomer" (age 70) reading the "younger demographic" sentiments of the "old, old" people, I found this quite amusing. I actually laughed/snorted a couple times.

Yes, we "boomers" are somewhat set in our ways in certain things because we've had years of experience of seeing what works and what doesn't. Combine that with the mentality of us "boomers" who grew up embracing LOYALTY and sticking around for an entire career and WANTING to IMPROVE our company that we've invested in over the years - compared to the Millenials and Gen Z's who generally work for a company, then leave after only two years to go elsewhere - with no lasting "investment" to the organization to speak of. What, we "boomers" are supposed to just leave to satisfy YOU so that you can endure ONLY TWO YEARS before moving on???

It's the same all over. Corporate. Military. We "boomers" are just to be discarded. You're driving away any and all support that we MAY have had for you. Fine. Fight your own battles. Glad I grew up when I did.....and retired.....so that I'm not subjected to this cr-p.....

First of all, it’s extremely discriminatory to call the work force OLD OLD OLD. If they’re doing their job well, that’s all that matters. Having said that, they should offer early retirement than I’m sure many of the OLD OLD OLD people would gladly take. And honestly this is a sad excuse for a company anymore. Used to be a great place to work. I’m ok being laid off. Tired of non stop hand holding and training of offshore. Only to get stuck with the major “eff ups” they repeatedly cause. Good luck to everyone for the next round of chopping!

Truth to be told, workforce is really old. Really really old. Highmark might benefits by making workforce younger in some fashion long term. Older people also tend to have more business knowledge, just that they are not open to change.

Plausible that if you aren't local and in the office, you're going to be cut. Company has lost a ton of $$$ on its real estate. I don't think Holmberg and his crew has handled much of anything very well since covid but there is fat that needs to be trimmed at Highmark. Plenty of people not pulling their weight and the workforce is old, old, old. New blood is needed at all levels - including C-suite. That being said, people should be treated with dignity (read: generous severance) and replacing onshore jobs with Indians who don't know their a-s from their elbow is not the answer either.

I am a director and will not say where but yes, a pretty big layoff is coming. We have had several meetings. If you are currently a director or above and wasn't included this is your time to prepare. Its no longer a matter of "if" but "when". If you are state side and work remote not a good mix.

And know when they do it , there are no severance packages … nothing just thanks for your years of loyalty..
but we are done with you .
So much for we are a family , loyalty matters .
What about the older generation that is begin kicked to the curb wherever they supposed to go ??

I heard that rumor from someone today. There were recent meetings between leaders till director level.

It is coming.

I also heard that Thryve was getting ahead of themselves and projecting themselves as a IT company that can win projects independently. Not a good time to be here.

Highmark and enGen are probably taking a big hit. So much knowledge down the drain.
