Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Latest info relevant to this site.

Union techs across the company were given the option for voluntary separation yesterday. If they don't receive enough volunteers they will lay people off. No mention of how many positions they need to "downsize", just the normal if you don't leave yourself, you might be laid off.

Seems to be Network techs and maybe BST’s were given the notice of a RIF in some areas. Have not heard of any Union CST, ops splicers being notified of a RIF in their departments yet, would imagine that’s coming next.

The union does nothing. They just say “well it’s a reduction in force” nothing we can do about it. I know one state where 25% of the union net techs will be gone by June.

The union makes sure that about the top 25% of seniority comes out of it fine. Basically if you’re past retirement age you’re protected

So in these cases of layoffs, what does the union do? How do they protect the employees in these cases? I know some of the CLEC techs have discussed unionizing.

Oh I’m sure it’s a whopper of an offer.

They did the same thing in CLEC territory in July of 2024 and then had the big layoff in Jan 2025.

There will be no need for a layoff people are quitting left and right.
