Too much middle tier

I always wonder why we have too much middle layer in IT. We have associates reporting to a manager.
Manager I, Manager II, Director I, Director II, VP, SVP. Atleast 2 layers could be cut down. If company has moved to agile, dont know what role does manager or director plays other than powerpoint, billing and timesheet approvals. Instead of RIFng lower level employees, they could have removed these so called management which will work even without them.

They need to start with the Staff VP level. Most of those people are a joke, they have so few skills.

Follow Amazon’s method and get rid of majority of middle tier, rebrand them as project manager. Has anyone seen Kaiser’s career section? Most are consultants jobs.

Leader’s reduction is still the works. You will the 77 model become a 4 x( unknown) after all these rebadging . Hold tight and all these middle tier managers will end up becoming Project managers on the vendor side .

It’s easier to rif individual contributors staff because senior upper leaders don’t want to lose their support that’s why there are so many of the middle tier folks. It’s good cushion. Besides all these managers and directors that give false narratives on what’s really happening to senior leaders because they don’t know what they’re doing themselves and be in their good graces. It’s a never ending cycle. Staff workers are just on the losing end of that cycle.

Manager I protects and does the work the Manager II should be doing, Manager II protects and does the work the Director I should be doing, Director I protects and does the work the Director II should be doing, Director II protects and does the work the VP should be doing, the VP protects and does the work the SVP should be doing, the SVP delegates whatever orders come down from the CEO to the staff below him. Manager I delegates all of their work to individual contributors. It has become a really sick toxic reporting structure.....
