Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Iconic leader laid off

There are too many words and feelings right now. The leader who hired me, giving me a chance was laid off with this wave after being forced into a promotion, having their direct reports removed, changed to an independent contributor against their desires, and today, laid off after saving the company substantial money thanks to finding system problems that they begged him to look for in the first place. This leader is not only an inspiring presence, but their dogged determination to fix flaws in the company, delivering time and time again on what was asked of them, was disrespected with being laid off. This person is the best leader I've ever worked for. I wonder how many people will follow him out.

Someone please just say who he (JC) is??? I’m in the dark and can’t think of who this might be. A first name, last name even if it’s popular.

LOL Overnight the post and last few comments got over 30 downvotes? Tell me one person didn't get their feelings hurt that someone was getting praise without telling me someone got their feelings hurt that someone was getting praise.

Such fragile emotions. Get over yourself. Sorry you didn't get your own thread, guy.

I fairness I think he called everyone else "dude" too so it probably just stuck. I didn't know him well but I remember his "dude what if"s and "dude what's up"s all the time in meetings or anytime he'd visit our site.

So many people referring to this guy as “dude”. SMH. I’m sorry you got laid off but you clearly are writing all of these to yourself about yourself. Please get some help. I mean that in a concerned way. It will be ok. Therapy will help you get through this. Also have to admit. Pretty clever way to boost your ego and get your story out. lol

OP here - All I'll say is I appreciate every story that has been shared on this thread, it's nice to know they were seen by more than just myself. To everyone else, Thank you, I appreciate your confidence, but I have far more interesting things to do with my life than blow up my own thread. I made the original post. Everything else has NOT been me.

Jesus - all those laid off are manipulative and have to grift in order to get a new job? You knew them all, well enough to state this?

You, sir or ma'am, are an absolute garbage pile. Have the weekend that you deserve.

Wild seeing what looks like a disinformation campaign against the objectively best manager I think any of us that knew or reported to him had ever had. Every manager I've had since has been pale in comparison. Not surprised at all by this thread. It's well deserved. God bless him on whatever his next journey is. I'll be watching his LinkedIn to see where I'll be trying to work next.

dude walked the walk, while every other leader talked the talk. he fit in evrywhere and could do any job and if you needed help or needed to know something you went to him because he could hook you up perfect the first time every time. the man lived the company values instead of just talking about them

@e8 You had to have known him to know that's not true. He was popular because he spoke the truth when every other leader stuck to the talking points. When you needed his help he didn't brag about it and put his name all over it. He helped you and walked away. If he had a fault it was that he never drew attention to himself when he really should have. He has a "cult following" like you say for all of the right reasons. Cigna didn't know what it had because he never made it about himself. He always made it about us.

I’m going to save something showing why I’ve had a hard time at Cigna. I think getting rid of leaders who have a cult like following, as evident with the amount of posts about this person is good. This is a company, loyalty is to the customer and not some guy who helped you get a promotion which probs benefited this guy more than you. I see a lot of tribal behavior at Cigna for the sake of keeping things the same and keeping inventory and head count high. After reading this I think they got rid of this person and his mob for a reason. Good luck to these people who got laid off, I’m sure you’re manipulative enough to grift your way to leadership in another company. Also, just because I have a harsh opinion doesn’t mean I’m bitter, it just means you don’t like what I’m saying.

@e1+1jqygyecx Serverance cannot be impacted by an anonymous online thread. Impossible. If Cigna even tried, they would be ki-led in the courts and public opinion.

When I talked to him yesterday he said he's aware of the thread because everyone keeps sending him links to it but that even though he's touched by it he is worried about his severance being affected by this. So keep in mind people that you're not doing him any favors by dragging him or his leaders into this. You're only hurting him.

@dq+1jqygyecx to be fair, no one else laid off has had a thread with this much engagement and I've never heard of this guy in my 10+ years of employment. HR could read this and assume this "iconic" leader got pi---d and wrote all these posts himself especially with the negativity towards his management. The site likely took the names down due to revealing personal info, but it's also probably for the best to avoid potentially hurting his severance if it is in fact not him raging here and genuine concerned coworkers.

I knew him. Guarantee you he won't be gone for long. Wish him all the best wherever he ends up. He's still on the org chart if you want to see who he reported to. She deserves all the rage for this colossal fu-k up.

He was young. In his 30s I'd guess. He said a lot though that he believed in Cigna and he wanted to retire there someday. Talked to him earlier and he said he'd do it again. I think his loyalty is misplaced but I respect it.

It can make sense only if he is ready for retirement, and being laid off with a good severance parachute

@ak Yes. What people don't know is how much cr-p he took at times and never showed it and never told anyone about it. He put his job on the line over and over to protect his people. I remember one day in the office when his then-boss was screaming in his ear over the phone and I sit aisles away from him. I asked him what that was and all he said that it didn't matter and asked how I'm doing. THAT IS THE KIND OF PERSON THIS COMPANY NEEDS.

Everyone loved him and other leaders closet-loved him because if you were attached to him you were made of gold. Even his old boss ended up loving him in the end because in the end, he was right all along about everything he ever said and did. He never said anything, but in the last year you heard her voice be pleasant and cheerful with him asking him for help. The man always delivered, even if another leader treated him like cr-p and hated him.

“I heard about this post from a coworker. I want to share my story. I lost my house …”

It’s really a touching story! That’s probably why others are jealous and are dwarfed by him, so let him go

I heard about this post from a coworker. I want to share my story. I lost my house because my pipes froze and burst over the winter and me and my son were homeless. In less than 10 minutes he found someone with a big truck and had them pick us up and he got us in a hotel paid until we could get a new house to live in. He never talked to me about PTO or performance or anything through that time and was only concerned with me and my kids. I believe that was 100% him and not the company because other people have gone through stuff and never get taken care of like I was.

Y'all we could spin stories for days about him (I know exactly who this is about too) but all I'll say is I was a total fu-k up of an employee and he was the only person that corrected me respectfully but did everything he could to help me and I truly believe that and he was always right. I would not be where I am today without him.

Wow I wish I had a chance to work with this person. They sound amazing. It’s insane that Cigna would get rid of someone like that. The newer leadership crop are the exact opposite of this. I hope he gets a much better job soon.

Underutilized and mismanaged. Dude was the literal life joy and hope. I work clinical and as recently as last month he didn't hesitate to take my call on his personal phone and drive out to me to help me with an issue that could have become patient facing fast. Been trying to call him since I saw this and he's not taking my calls right now. I hope he's okay. The company probably kneecapped him with a severance that keeps him from talking to anyone.

Cigna never takes care of their best and this is proof of it. He taught my whole team better ways to use Excel and came in on his own time to help us in the office. He never owed us anything but was always there if anyone needed him. Dark day for us.

I remember his role change about a year ago. His senior director really boned him and I know he's mentioned multiple times that he thought it was the beginning of the end of his career with Cigna. They put him under a leader that had no job for him and took his whole team away. He was set up to fail and I and several others I know plan to confront her in person about it. Layoffs are always wrong but this was wrong to the core.

Yes to the person asking. His initials were "JC" and anyone that worked with him were better for it. He was the strongest customer advocate, patient advocate, and leader I think this company has ever had. He drove a hard line at times but when he did he was always fair and you knew why, and he helped you every step of the way through it. He made people BETTER and never went straight to PIPs like some leaders I know do. He-l even the customer advocate teams knew and loved him. Even put his name on a projector in an executive town hall more than once. He will be missed.
