Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Layoffs not new in this world.

Cigna is too big of a company to fall. Trust me… I have seen worse situations than Cigna. The current mess is due to some wrong choices our leaders made… but there is no point in blaming them either… we would have done the same as well. Things happening now are the nature of the business world… there are ups and there are downs… We celebrate ups and regret downs. Ultimately, life moves on… Be happy about the severance package; it's definitely the best one. There is a trend in Silicon Valley where people are getting PIP’d left and right to save on severance packages. Ultimately, god bless us all and give us the best we deserve.

“What were the wrong choices Cigna's leader's made? I have heard people alluding to this but no one has called out specifically what or where they went wrong?”

Time will show that moving tech to HIH will backfire. Every decade or so tech companies try this, eventually fail, and then bring the jobs back on shore. This time, with AI in the mix, fewer jobs will come back.

I've been unhappy at Cigna and am glad to be shown the door but you're right, it could be much worse. Be thankful for the severance and move on.

So true! I had similar experiences. Many years ago, my employer had a huge layoff, I was offered a good severance package, but I decided to stay with company in a different group. Few years later, company merged with another company and then I still was laid off with a much worse severance package. Cigna is still in business and can offer the decent severance packages so take it, and move on!

IMO the leaders made no wrong choices. They made every choice right for a for-profit health insurance company who owes a duty to its shareholders to maximize profits. Unfortunately, in healthcare, maximizing profits = minimizing the care that the average human receives. It is a DISGUSTING industry and I am so happy to be leaving it.
