Thread regarding Cigna layoffs

Good luck this week to everyone

I hope those who badly need a job are able to keep it. As for me, I’m hoping to be let go. I’m burnt out and completely disillusioned.

It's a place to vent so I wouldn't read that much into it.

Probably lots of people are looking around but can be more selective since they still have their Cigna job. It's also a highly competitive job market where it's a minor miracle to not take a step down in salary. Add those things together along with the possibility of a decent severance and it makes sense why people are hanging in at Cigna even through the misery.

A job I can tolerate, sure. But people post on this forum about being so depressed they can hardly get out of bed thanks to Cigna. That is more what I mean

If you feel like you’re about to be laid off, why not look forward to the severance?

If the layoff never comes, you should have enough savings and 401K to retire. And isn’t THAT the goal? Folks need to stop focusing on “a job that makes me happy” and focus on “a job that I can tolerate, a job that provides what I need with an employer that offers good benefits, and a job that I can retire from.”

That “job that makes you happy” stuff is a fairytale. All jobs have their positives and negatives.

But some jobs are surely better than others, no?

@f3+1jqs3nazp absolutely delusional to think the average person enjoys any form of work.

But wouldn’t you rather be in a job you enjoy ?

That’s why people “quiet quit”. Put in less effort to not be miserable and basically see how long it takes to end up on a list. Worst case scenario, you keep getting paid for a halfhearted effort.

Everyone understands that. But what if you do not get laid off so you never get the severance? Then you’re stuck at a job you hate forever. At some point, it makes sense to leave for your own mental health instead of waiting for a payday that might never come

Do folks saying “why don’t you just apply somewhere else” not realize that the severance pay is quite hefty, and if you find another job while being paid severance you can double dip?

Job jumping has its benefits, but this is a situation where it’s not beneficial to do it.

So people are choosing to be completely miserable 5 days a week in the hopes that maybe one day they’ll be laid off? What if it takes decades or never happens? Your life is just wasted? Take control.

Because severance provides a parachute.

Why are so many miserable people waiting to get laid off? I found another job and put in my two weeks

Same, I'm ready for something new. I came to Cigna ready to kick butt but this place wears you out. I never wanted to think of my job as just collecting a paycheck and surviving until the weekend but that's what this place does to you.
