Working on leaving but exhausted

I have been working on trying to leave Citibank but it has been exhausting. Responsibilities outside work, taking care of sick family members, studying for technical interviews and working long hours since my team is overseas wears you out. It was manageable when I was willing to stay, but I definitively feel the strain trying to work on getting out. The work load and long hours makes it hard to take care of myself. I don't have free time to take care of myself so I get little sleep and don't go to the gym. to compensate, I try to control my diet so my body doesnt suffer too much.

I been studying any free time I have and applying for jobs, but these recruiters want a machine, not a human. Some of these coding challenges or interview topics seem to gatekeep people they dont want to join their team. I have been at it for eight months on and off based on life circumstances. I recently trying the push to leave again but I been burning the candle of both ends, that it is now showing badly. I cannot push myself to work anymore at the job. I am just sitting mindlessly in front of the computer and its been like this for 5 days. I have work piling up and I cannot push myself. Even in late meetings Im just sitting there, I know my health is declining but i have no choice.

Yesterday I sat in front of my computer for 10 hours and only got 2 hours of work done. The rest was just staring at the monitor in a sleep like state, awakened back to reality by the teams ping message. It is really starting to be obvious I am burned out and I been trying my best to hide it from the bosses. I try not to sit anywhere near them to hide it to preserve my image.

Same here. The woke nonsense, endless redundant meaningless work, extreme micromanagement, and just being treated like horse dung. The raise of single child-free females in C-15 and higher positions has made working mothers life he-l. These women are highly competent and hardworking, and absolutely cannot relate to having responsibilities as a parent. You are a nothing; a loser that chose a "mommy path" over real work.

By keeping the OP at the same Level-Title, the OP has been stuck at Low Salary increases and Low Bonuses for years if not decades. And this is assuming the OP received any Bonus at all. There are thousands of Employees-Svckers who got zero salary increases and/or Bonuses.

$hitibank is a penurious mendicant that's nickel and diming its employees for every Fvcken penny. $hitibank is financially and operationally unstable. What other logical explanation could there be for an Employer to use every single tactic to Blood Svck every penny out of its Employees (EXCEPT the C-Suite, MDs and Ds) ???!!!

$hitibank decreased its 401k match to annual as well as capped it to $12,000, decreased salary increases and bonuses, reduced medical and other benefits, etc., etc., etc.. Doing these machinations is NOT going to attract and/or retain the best and brightest employees. Yet in the same breathe and during Townhall meetings, $hitibank claims to be uphold "Talent Management" as a priority. LMFAO ! Actions speak louder than words.

Other posters have already posted it on this Forum. $hitibank is lucky if it can attract and retain Drvg Dealers, Drvg Users, Temp-Contractors and the Long-term Unemployed because those are the Only Employees who can Not find jobs at Real Banks and will take $hitibank's Low Salaries and reduced benefits (Pension, medical, etc.).

Case In Point: An OP started a Thread on this Forum about Citi's Drvg Screening Background Check Policy and how he can beat it. LOL ! Everyone else goes to this Site seeking info about Layoffs, Career Management, etc. but this OP is worried about how he can beat Citi's Drvg Screening or if Citi has one at all. Real Classy and these are the Low Caliber employees $hitibank is attracting and retaining..... the type that will steal from $hitibank to feed their Drvg or Alc0hol habit and cause $hitibank to add to its vast collections of mentary fines, COnsent Orders and MRIAs. LMFAO !

There are more deserving individuals in C13 who aren’t getting opportunities for internal moves or even promotions. Recruiters won’t even look at anyone’s resume for internal job postings because they already have someone chosen based on referrals. Growth opportunities at Citi is completely biased.

Not your problem, man - relax. It is just the system - job market is flooded with candidates from all over the world. Companies are spoiled now - even people with Ivy degrees are finding it increasingly difficult to find good jobs. We are living in a transitional period - from education-driven job market to some new state, where education is not worth it anymore - we will se what will count. Seems like hard work is also useless nowadays - you cannot compete with AI and / or desperate people from the third world. Just accept your living standards will be falling - and be happy!

I have totally checked out. I have never seen anything such a mess as Citi is right now. Two types of people left, those who will do anything to keep their jobs and a growing number of us who have quit mentally or already quit. I want my package and to be done with this joke of a company. Sad to see what has happened.

I don't know about outside of the USA, but Citi uses a company called Bright Horizons where you can hire caretakers for adult relatives who are sick or disabled, and also babysitters for children.

The cost to the employee is less than what it would cost without Citi's subsidy. Contact HR or Bright Horizons.

I’ve been battling with this burnout mess for about a year and a half as well. I go through a week of being super productive and then two weeks forcing myself to complete the smallest tasks. Everything feels pointless and overwhelming because of the lack of compensation we receive. Why strive to be the best when you’ll still get peanuts? I e thought about some sort of mental health leave, but in doing so I’d have to go to therapy regularly, and I’d love to. But sadly, the budget isn’t set up for an additional $200ish per month for copays.

I hope everyone finds a healthy coping path to deal with the stress, anxiety and mental anguish. I really hate seeing what a job and life have done to have people feeling this way.

I’m in a similar same cycle. I developed a dr-g habit to deal with the bad feelings though. It helps feel better. And gets me closer to being an unemployed, unemployable loser.

Also OP in addition to feeling like a failure; my burnout is so bad I can’t work productively. And then I’m in a vicious loop as my performance is getting worse and that is creating MORE anxiety.

Here, here. My dad graduated from college when he was 35, and said “I’ll never another test again in my life.”

And he didn’t. It cost him professionally, of course, but he was too lazy to enough about advancement. He made good money and raised his kids.

Fast forward 30 years, and I would steal, mu---r, and sell someone’s infant child if it helped me know I was going to get to retire sometime. Ideally before being too broken to do anything else.

I’ll just off myself instead. Could be fun (and/or impactful!) to do it together.

Sorry you're going through this.
Have you considered taking time off for a medical leave of absence?
Make an appointment with your Dr. and see if they can sign off on whatever paperwork you'd need to have in place to do this. If nothing else, it will buy you some time, so you can focus better on getting a new job.

Your health is of utmost importance.
You need a break...especially when caring for sick loved ones, while doing everything else.
Can you arrange for them to have some in-home care done for them by whoever would be approved for that under their health insurance? If not for completely substituting your time you spend with them, but enough time to give you a break from it.

Consider looking in other types of work or industries where you can use your same skills, but doing something different.
I will be praying for you and I hope you find a great new job soon!
