Houston morale shift

Been observing an interesting shift in morale in Houston. When hq move from sr was announced last year & obviously affected bay are a personnel, some Houstonians on my team didn’t seem to care. Nobody reached out to ask if I was ok or how the move was gonna impact my wife & kids or how they could help me.

Now that everybody is at risk of job loss including hou, I see a lot of dejected & angry people in our team. Being the sh-t started that I am I feel like too bad how sad. Now ya’ll get to experience what sr went through back in aug.

As a Houston based employee, I have many close coworkers in SR that are in tough situations. Some have eldery parents, kids in collage etc and while they are highly skilled and would likly land a role in HOU, many are unable to make the move. I have reached out to them to check in from time to time but also trying to be sensitive not to make them feel like they need to explain their challanges etc. So it's not that we don't care but there is little we can do other than lend an ear and try to provide as much empthy as possible.

@a7+1jqjjsjw9, Fair enough, since you're not an American, just make sure that you don't ever move to America or seek citizenship, problem solved.

@cp+1jqjjsjw9 That’s like saying the Houston folks should’ve known their jobs were getting offshored because offshoring at Exxon and Shell have been going on for years. Why are we at each other? SR or HOU didn’t cause this situation. I’m supporting my coworkers no matter where they’re located. We are all going through it. No need to make it worse.
However, dealing with some of the cutthroat managers is a different story when they are only looking out for themselves and stepping on others because they think it makes them look better.

My Houston coworkers didn’t give a sh-t when HQ move was announced. They thought we’d be happy to move.

My AEOI was accepted and the June redeployment can’t come quick enough. For my SR colleagues thinking of moving, enjoy getting laid off in the next reorganization and being stuck in Houston.

Why should they be overly concerned? Chevron has been broadcasting their desire to leave SR for the better part of a decade. You had ample time to prepare, and if needed, find a new job or move down to Houston at a convenient time.

You're in a tough spot due to personal choice. This compares to the Houston people that are in a tough spot despite willingness to make sacrifices.

It is what they want. Instead of unionizing and coming up with solutions (including severance) they want you at each other’s throats. Remember, you made them 450+k per employee but that isn’t enough for them. They want us to sqeeze our coworkers bones for the marrow because they are not satisfied with su-king our blood.

@a8+1jqjjsjw9: how am I safe? If anything we are all more at risk of job loss because it is a very wide net layoff event & being sr based makes us more at risk IMO.

My post was to highlight how some people lack empathy for others but when sh-t happens to them it becomes a Greek tragedy.

I hate to tell you this, but your friendly work colleagues are not necessarily your friends. They will put their company paycheck before you any day of the week. If you leave the company it is "out of sight, out of mind". This is not to say they are not good people, but this is the result of the competitive system.

So you are laughing now because you are safe?
