Thread regarding Windstream Corp. layoffs

Tech Talk

Techs need to have a higher reading level and comprehension. Countless customers requesting to upgrade old copper to fiber as also the company directive. But the technician tells the customer they are installing a whole new circuit instead of replacing it. Customer is like I never agreed to that and then it cancels out. Customer then eventually leaves to Spectrum. Or the tech is friends with that customer cancels the order they requested and gives the tech his 5 star survey. They cant read and if customers stop requesting new service or upgrade service your job will get cut again and the techs have been cut before for this reason.

Well I must say now that I’ve heard the arguments from the tech side & sales side neither is wrong & both make valid points. The main problem and common denominator is once again the fat cats at the top that focus on numbers and metrics for their own agenda. They don’t give 2 turds about the lower levels that actually make this place go round. Now there’s a huge push with all hands on deck for 6 months to get as many orders in the books to show the potential new owner what growth we have. Smoke n mirrors as usual.

These sales pitches are great! I will tell you most sales people don’t want to lie but were told if we want a job we will do as we’re told. Every sales department is also scripted which isn’t a huge deal but why have discovery if it’s insistent that we top down sale!!! It’s not the sales people that are the problem… it’s their leadership. There are power struggles going on inside sales leadership right now that is absolutely comical and it’s all about them numbers. They all pitching ideas like they know what’s best and most are dei hires who truly don’t need to be calling any shots and know nothing about sales and the best ways to get them. The 90 year old lady doesn’t need all the extra stuff and why advertise that 100 mbps for 24.99 if ur going to first offer 2 GIG service!! It’s madness in sales and will be until people are let go.

Hey salesman. Don't forget to upsell to the customer who is trying to cancel services because their relative passed away. Maybe you can give then 2 months free so you don't get a charge back.

Hi I’m a salesman for Windstream. I sell fiber. Do you want fiber? It’s really fast. It will make that windows 98/XP machine faster. Oh you have a 10 year old IPad. That’s no issue here is a broadband extender. Oh your 15 year old tv is buffering on Comcast. No issue we will fix you up with a gig and an extender. You’re 90 years old with only a land line. That’s no problem we will get you fiber with 2gigs and make sure it doesn’t work when the power goes out. But hey I’m only a salesman.

Sales people in this company are as close to shady used car salesman as it gets.

I don't remember that. I do remember selling DSL connections and providing modems that couldn't even support the advertised speed no matter what the line was capable of. At the time WIN didn't even have a modem in inventory that could support the speeds we were claiming

Anyone remember the debacle when WS started selling computers? That was a cluster. Selling some 90 year old lady whose on a tight budget with just a pots line and convincing her she needs internet and a computer. All the while she could barely afford her $20 pots line

We also have a really big problem with D2D sales outright lying and telling customers they are getting fiber. Tech shows up to install DSL and it becomes a cancelled order. This has been brought to Zo's attention and he said to bury it.

Low level employees make this company… don’t forget it !!! You see where the lip service quacks ended up.

That's about as bad as them selling best effort internet to people and telling them how high speed it is.

Sales telling customers copper is being shut off is the truth. Then you have customers who actually don't qualify for fiber (because records are wrong) calling back to have the copper cut back on.. and guess what - assignment cuts it right back on.

It's absolutely hilarious sitting here and watching low level employees blame each other for the state of this company. This company has been mismanaged from the top down for many years and you think it's directly the tech's fault or a sales persons fault? The top brass lined their pockets while driving the company into bankruptcy. The rank in file pretty much have to do as they are told because their input and ideas are never listened to beyond "yeah, we hear you" and are then forgotten. The bottom line, is like every other company, those at the top will get theirs while everyone else gets the shaft.

People did that stuff in residential and business. Place O and I orders just to close deals and tell people they can't get better pricing unless they did. Or tell them to put it in someone else's name. The conniving was real shady.

Sales are pathetic. I hear all the time that the sales are telling customers they must switch to fiber because copper is being shut off. Anything for a sale. Ruthless!

All the sales people need to go is semi-valid. Some do but some dont. Most techs need to go. Always sending out the wrong people for the wrong jobs. Never reading the actual orders and job. You have one job and they fail to do that. Techs want to cancel everything if it requires more than 5 minutes and two brain cells.
