Thread regarding Refinitiv layoffs

If they put your role at risk, do this...

Firstly, this is common, and you’re not the only one affected. The reason they gave you is BS. They just want you out, and this is how they operate currently.

Secondly, they will tell you to keep it to yourself. Don’t do it! Share it with your team and everyone you know. There isn’t any law preventing you from sharing it, your manager knows it, s/he put you at risk and s/he has shared it already with others. Don’t worry about the enhanced package, this has been agreed already with the Union, it has been published and they cannot take it away from you. Otherwise, it would be discrimination.

They will tell you don't need to come i
the office, come in every day! When your role is at risk, you still have a job and you can access the office. Come in, keep your temper, sit with you team, preferably next to your manager and read your favourite novel.

Most importantly, raise a grievance immediately. Again, they cannot withdraw your enhanced package, because if they do, it would be an act of retaliation.

The grievance must be reviewed by someone at the same level. The outcome will likely be that your grievance is deemed invalid. This is expected. Appeal it. Then, your grievance must be reviewed by someone one level above.

If they put at risk 100 colleagues in a round and all of them raise grievances which, by law, must be reviewed then all the managers, HR, and legal teams will be overwhelmed with dealing with grievances!

If they don't stick with the process consider seeking legal advice.

You have more power than you think! Check the portal and make yourself familiar with the grievance process and the redundancy package.

You're welcome ;)

@4fd+1jqb11ptw I hope you have documentary evidence of this and take them to a tribunal.

I am going through the redundancy process right now, and I can tell you they messed up so badly.

We were told that first, the selection process will only be for people within our own global grade. However, midway through, without any formal notification, they merged different pools and got rid of all the senior people and promoted junior people into senior roles.

This is sham redundancy at its finest.

HR always sides with the company, not the employee. From what I understand, the post encourages anyone affected by pretext redundancies to turn the company’s own processes against it, creating a nightmare for HR. These processes exist because of legal requirements, and if HR fails to follow them properly, they risk facing tribunals.

Also, if you are affected and your role is at risk, don’t fall for the soft, empathetic tone of the HR rep on the call. They don’t care, their job is to make you be quiet during the "explore other opportunities" phase.

As ex-employee impacted by such toxic and atrocious behavior, I hope employees do stand up in masses and it makes a difference. However, know that HR is not on your side, and I know this through experience. They support the behavior and take actions to silence / hide or blame the employee instead of taking action on those who promote it. Do you really think senior leadership does not know about this? If you have been put at risk, ask yourself if you will be better off elsewhere. You have a least a 50% chance you will find company that acts as a true meritocracy. If you were good at your role, you will be better off elsewhere. LSEG is rotten at its core. To any potential candidates, stay away.

Some well paid managers must be very proud reading this post. This what you have achieved, employees now are advising publicaly each other to challenge the process aggressively!

Can this company's employer brand fall any lower?

And while employees are being let go at an alarming rate, the CEO has doubled his compensation and is busy giving career advice on podcasts, advice that rings hollow when, under his watch, job security at his company is a joke.

To make matters worse, many managers treat their divisions like personal fiefdoms, favoring politics over performance. Instead of a true meritocracy, career progression is dictated by who you know, not what you contribute. The hypocrisy is staggering. If the CEO and his direct reports had any real commitment to fairness, they would take a lesson from Amazon’s CEO Andy Jassy, who recently called out exactly this kind of toxic managerial culture in his leaked recording.

Listen, if you have any traces of conscience, you must take responsibility and act now! Call HR and immediately review every redundancy decision made in the last few years. How many of those roles were actually redundant? How many were just politically motivated purges? How many top performers were forced out and replaced by underqualified ones just because they knew the right person? What is going on in this company is disgusting.

If as a CEO, you truly believe in fairness and accountability, prove it. Start by reviewing your managers' decisions before more damage is done to what’s left of this company’s credibility.

A message by a disappointed employee working for the most toxic environment ever experienced.
