Was best of belk kept really hush hush at your store? If so, why? I don’t get how people are chosen? Is it favoritism?

In my store, the winners were picked by the associates. Or so they said… The winners were picked by management and it is obvious. One person in particular who won …. No one likes… And I doubt that that person received any vot es! This is the only company that gives out rewards and goes by the managers choice rather then based on merit! You work hard and if you are not a favorite of the store manager. Well, forget it.. your hard work goes unappreciated. In my store,2 of the winners already quit because they found better jobs!!! This is such a messed up system and one that makes associates wonder why they work for such a sc--wed up company!! Or maybe they want the better paid associates to quit so they can hire more of the part timers who live on their phone..Either way… BEST OF BELK IS A JOKE!!!

And take notice they no longer discuss sales when you are given the award. belk is the only company I’m aware of that does not focus on sales numbers. Baffling.
All politics and favoritism. Forget the votes by the associates- none of that matters, and it’s just for show. It’s all about who the store manager’s favorites are.
Absolutely. A manager at mine even admitted that they can bypass the votes. Someone who I blew the whistle about got it, even though she is getting special circumstances to not work weekends, and I know that no one would have voted for her.
flatter the store managers? ------------------------who came and go (atleast at my store) like the wind. I;ve been at belk since 2019 and have had about six store managers some just lasted less than 6 months.

they say associates vote, but that is not true.
the store manager is the one who picks between 3 to 8 people depening on store size.
0458 crabtree-----had best of belk winners who had terrible credit and sales performance, yet would get the award.
some had attendance warnings and would get the award

I will quit when I am ready to quit not because of their tactics. Every day is torture working at Belk so they are not going to run me out by hurting my feelings.
In my store when it comes to posting the numbers my manager always skips over my name. I guess that is another way to make you feel unappreciated.
@f1+1. I think you are correct. They are using best of Belk to manipulate the staff, but it does't matter because I know I am good and I'm sure you are too. I'm used to not being appreciated. It comes with the territory.
Best of Belk is a way for associates to feel under appreciated and to quit. That’s what belk wants, lower employee head count. Belk is using these devious tactics to get rid of as many people as possible and save money. Sad, but true. It’s extremely odd that the majority of Best of Belk winners across the company are lower paid support associates, housekeeping, and leads/key holders doing the managers job for no pay. Best of Belk is a total sham, don’t feel bad if you didn’t get it, that means you have the ability to think for yourself and won’t fall for Belk’s devious tactics.
The truth is that if you’re not willing to flatter those in charge and put in a significant amount of effort, your hard work often goes unrewarded. For instance, there was a case where an employee in the cosmetics department achieved all their targets but ended up being disregarded because they had annoyed a manager. Meanwhile, another individual, who consistently grumbled and reported on their peers, ended up receiving the praise instead.
The store I work at has not announced as of yet. The same people get it every year, not the best workers but the managers favorites. 98
