Thread regarding Belk layoffs

Full-time has to have open availability unless you claim religion

In the fall, they quietly changed Belk policy. You can have a set schedule if you claim that the day(s) you want off each week are for religious purposes. But they’re hiding it and only giving this option to their golden people. Tell people at your stores to start mass-requesting the Saturdays and Sundays off, which the rest of us accepted were part of our contract as retail employees. Why is a counter manager getting every Saturday off when that is our busiest day weekly? But god forbid I ask off a weekend now and then.

This is just how toys r us was when I worked there. Bogus awards, giving candy and cookies as gratis like associates are children, bullitan boards awards and recognition like you would see in an elementary school, toys r us had a managers award ceremony a month before they told us the stores were going to liquidate. The same thing is going to happen at belk.

Things have gotten even more brutal since this last change or should I say more stupid. Corporate thinks they are so savvy but they are just tacky and greedy. They are laughing all the way to the bank but watch out for karma, it always gets you in the end.

The “policies” can change day to day or minute to minute according to their moods or whatever retail emergency is happening at the moment.

Yet another example of Belk’s elitism at play. They claim to have policies, but in reality, it’s all about who they choose to favor. Full-time employees are expected to be endlessly available, yet certain people are quietly granted exceptions under the table. There’s no real work-life balance here—just favoritism disguised as policy.
