Thread regarding Ford layoffs

How attractive is Ford to young talented people?

I don't want to generalize, but several young new hires I know are not interested in their work at all. In addition, they look quite unsatisfied. I think that Ford will have to change something if the company wants to attract young talented people and keep them here.

@1gfp bad idea for youngsters to start their career at ford. They develop bad work habits and are exposed to archaic processes and procedures. If the job market turns while they are at ford they could be stuck longer than a few years and will end up having a very difficult time finding alternative employment.

Unless the youngsters values and core beliefs align with fords practiced culture (the practiced not the stated), the youngsters should steer clear. Over time long time ford employees mold themselves to fords practiced culture. One day they don’t recognize themselves and think how did they become such a deceitful backstabbing, credit stealing buffoon? By then they have long ceased doing a full days work and feel totally entitled to receive paychecks and buyouts. Many self medicate to distract themselves from the depressing situation.

Here is my take. Im in the early 30s..There is scope to do good work at Ford. But no motivation at all. Pay is not competitive, middle management seems directionless, lack of engineers, low budgets, employees are under valued etc. I can go on, but you got what I m saying.

I tell people it is OK to get a job at Ford early in your career, take the money, get some experience, punch your Ford ticket on your resume. Then after three years move on to a company that will treat you with respect and have a good career.

Many 20 and 30 year olds were also sprinkled into the 3,000 August cuts to avoid aged based discrimination lawsuits. Many of them had just a few years at Ford or even less. You don’t think they’ll go to their friends and tell them to avoid this place? Either that or they’ll shitpost on social media about their experience. Loyalty is nonexistent amongst these younger folks and they’re the LOUDEST generation of workers.

What are they going to change? Batteries and electric motors aren't that exciting and aren't all that high tech. Just follow the process.

As long as they stay young forever, it is a great opportunity.
