Thread regarding AIG (American Intl Group Inc.) layoffs

Performance means very little

I think performance means very little for the reason that I am more valued here now that I put in half as much effort as before when I gave 120% of myself. Why some are still giving it their best and worrying about performance is beyond my comprehension.

I understand your position, but you are holding on to a dream. The time to move on is now and that has never been more obvious. Take control, you still have something to give a good company.

It is unfortunate. The unfortunate reality is that many of us that have been here for years are stuck and are forced to watch a company we devoted much of our careers to devolve into a meaningless sideshow that corporate hacks use to raid the company coffers.

We have watched many, many great people come and go. But we hold on thinking one day things will get better or maybe we can just squeak by to retirement. It is a sad place to be at the end of what could have been a meaningful career.

So to your rather obvious retort, I agree. It is unfortunate. Hopefully the younger generation will learn never to put company before self.

@1zyd+1jqJlG5Q I agree with every word. Unfortunately, this means that you and I are the d-mb d-mbs that still work here.

As the AIG population declines, due mostly to attrition with no backfills, the talent pool declines and even the most average employee becomes more valuable. Your manager knows if you leave no one being hired to fill your position so a buffoon of an employee is better than no employee.

It is literally the d-mbing down of AIG. That is why performance reviews are such a joke. We are mostly working with staff that are the bottom of the barrel at this point. Let's just give everyone a participation award and stop acting like performance matters.
