Great example of someone going through a major setback (like losing a job) and, instead of moving forward, they spiral into anger, conspiracy theories, even harassment. What’s going on?

At our core, we all need three things to feel okay:
Security (stability, safety)
Significance (feeling important, valued)
Connection (belonging somewhere)

When something big and painful (a "canon event") takes those away, like a layoff, some people panic. They scramble to fill the void, and extremist narratives swoop in like, "You weren’t fired because of budgets, you were silenced by the deep state!" Suddenly, they’re the "hero whistleblower," lashing out at former bosses, spreading wild theories, and getting validation from online echo chambers, like this one.

It doesn’t excuse harmful behavior (harassment = always wrong). But understanding why it happens helps.

This is brilliant.

My plan was always to commit crime if get laid off. No downside. You either get free housing, to hoop with the boys, and finally no more career stress…….or you get away with it and get paid.

How are more people not doing this??
