Thread regarding USAA layoffs

We’re developing quite the reputation

I’m not sure we’ll attract any talent anytime soon, especially with word getting out about the constant layoffs, toxic environment, nepotism, cr-ppy management, and everything else. And honestly, I’m here for it. I can’t wait to see what happens when they lay off too many people and have no one cheaper and even semi-competent to replace them.

As another that left the company last year, I can say it doesn’t look great when trying to interview. I always got negative feedback about USAA when talking about my experience. Thankfully I got a couple good offers and was able to leave, but it is sad to see a brand die so dramatically.

I left USAA almost a year ago. I have to say that for the most part, I haven't regretted my decision at all. I used to get sad in the beginning, not because I left, but because I missed my old friends and co-workers, and my home in Texas. I tell everyone who will listen my experience working there. I tell them how in the beginning it was a dream come true to work there, and how that dream turned into a nightmare the last 2 or 3 years I worked there. There are still some people working there that I care about and remain in contact with. For their sake, I really hope things change for the better. But to be honest, I just don't see it happening anytime soon, if at all. Do what's best for you and your family. Don't hesitate to make a change, regardless of how drastic it is, if that change will bring back happiness to your life. Sticking around hoping that things will change for the better may be a good option sometimes. But in this case, I think it is just prolonging the inevitable -- dissatisfaction with your career, unhappiness in your life, and possibly even deterioration of your health. I sincerely wish you good luck no matter what you do.

Do you seriously think anybody with any decision-making ability cares about the reputation of the organization? I will go out on a lemon say they don’t care at all. And if you need any evidence of that, just look around at the employees. Exhausted and burnt out to no end.

Honest question. Do you think they want talent or the cheapest person with a pleasant voice that doesn’t know what to question?

To the prior post. It’s not the same everywhere. Fake news! Those with talent can land somewhere where they make a difference are valued.

Sad but true. Over the last 3 years
conversations with friends and family about USAA have gotten increasingly negative.

It’s really a shame. Starting with RTO, then stripping benefits, then constant layoffs … among so many other things like lack of transparency and lack of self-awareness and empathy … it’s just sad and I don’t know if leadership knows or cares.

I have gone from thinking I would retire here to now I’m just waiting for the right time to leave. Really really really disappointed in USAA leadership.

If they were not hiring nearly all 3P/Offshore (at least in IT) this might be a problem. I haven’t seen an FTE onboard in over a year.

LOL, look at any bank or insurance company and it's the same everywhere. I don't think we'll have any trouble attracting talent with six-figure salaries and 15-20% bonuses.
If this place isn't working for you, maybe it's time to try working somewhere else?

Somebody identified the problem awhile back...too many Chiefs and too many Indians.
