Families relocated to dallas

Just curious about families who took relocation to Dallas or Alpharetta. How much did it cost you to relocate and how far is your commute? Please share any other experiences adapting to the city.

Move to East or North Dallas.

Wilson org (Choy) gave out very nice move packages from remote locations to Dallas.
All discretionary. If you’re liked, you get everything paid for — unfair but that’s how it really works.
Our L3 is bragging about it. Shows he knows he’s in good with L4 & L5.
Unfortunately that’s all that’s needed in this company — popularity not effective work.
Upvote if you agree.

I cannot believe people actually move for this company after they see what they do to loyal employees.

You can buy East of downtown Dallas (Forney, Rockwall) 400K . Commute is 20-30 mins on carpool lane or take DART express bus from Lake Hubbard Transit Center. 3BR rental apartment is about $1800. School is decent 7/10.

"I know what happened. I saw it happen."

Impossible to see because it has never happened. Stop trying to promote your personal agenda. Just leave if you don't want to meet current job requirements.

Downsize/sell as much of your stuff as possible before moving (you can always refurnish once you're moved in, and do it on a budget if needed, by shopping estate sales for furniture, etc.) If you can fit your stuff to move into just 2 or 3 pods, you will save so much $ rather than using a moving truck, even when factoring-in hiring help for loading/unloading.

Others made a good point about Dallas - it's really booming, so even if you get 86'd from T, you can probably find something else really quickly. The cost of living is much less expensive in TX than in other states, even if you're in a densely populated area such as Dallas. People are nicer, too. Just be cool and don't cause any trouble. Assume that every person you encounter is strapped...because they probably are!

“So I got relocation Plan A where AT&T took care of everything.”
Must be nice to be an L4+. I’ve heard of the occasional L3 director getting that, but not anyone in the L2 and under class.

So I got relocation Plan A where AT&T took care of everything. I had a guaranteed buyout offer for my house and since I was able to find a buyer in the market I got a $15K reward and of course AT&T paid for commissions. There was also another $30K rounded up for taxes for house hunting trips etc. then when we closed on a house in Frisco AT&T took care of all closing costs. The movers were very professional and carefully packed and transported our property. They even paid to have our dog transported by private vehicle for $1500. I highly recommend relocation Plan A

Check out home owner insurance rates, crazy high. Also Dallas is not considered to yave good schools. Sell your dark colored car.
And oh goody, car pooling.

If you choose to move, rent a place, don't buy. This company has no real morals . . . they will lay you off even after you move.

" Once you are targeted and make yourself safe, they probably cannot target you again because you are already in Dallas."

Completely incorrect. I know of folks that were told they have to move, and then layed off within 12 months of moving to Dallas. You are never safe.

As well, I have seen move lists and layoff lists with the same person on both list . . . but they did not tell the person they were going to get laid off regardless of moving. Nice company AT&T is.

Figure 5-10k to move. Once you get here, housing cost in the northern suburbs aren’t cheap. Probably 500k-1million for a house. No state income tax helps, but real estate taxes are high.
The commute will be 60-90 minutes a day and you may incur toll fees depending on where you live.
Here’s the thing, Dallas has been growing for the 10 year I’ve been here and shows no signs of stopping. If you relocate and lose your gig at T, you’ll have a better chance of employment here than other places in the country.

It is all based on Merit. You have to be really good at your job not to be targeted. Both Dallas and Alpharetta are good places to live and raise children. They both have very good school systems and are mostly Red areas.

Moved from Chicago to Dallas, $7900 for moving company. Hard to calculate the costs associated with selling/buying real estate. Took a big chance, hoping and praying I don't get cut.

I received a layoff notice with no invitation to move. I scrambled to find a new job inside T because my pension payout increases substantially within 2 years. I found a job in Dallas for a little less and relocated on my own dime. I purchased a small house 45 minutes from the office. This was 6 months ago and so far so good. I am here to give inspiration to others that it is possible to beat them at their own game, and it is one big sick game. My days are spent collaborating with others that are not at my location. This proves what their true intentions are so just keep your head down. Once you are targeted and make yourself safe, they probably cannot target you again because you are already in Dallas. Remember, they are not very smart in the first place. The reports they run are not meant to pull employees that are already in Dallas. I am invisible now.

Relocation costs depend a lot on where you're moving from. And it costs far less for some who were offered relocation money.

most live in northern suburbs. unless you are wealthy, plan on at least 45-60min+ commutes to any Dallas area location. many drive 90+min each way. traffic su-ks, especially with everyone going rto.

Anyone that was asked to move and actually given a hard date they were fully willing to lose that employee. They know what a hardship this is due to current economic conditions they know the math does not work for most people. It was a calculated decision by AT&T execs.

Dallas is a pathetic “city” if you can even call it that. It’s more like a homeless shelter. Place is disgusting. It’s a collection of relocated misfits.

It cost me everything. Not a dollar of relocation. My wife left me. Sold my house before the move to Dallas. Got laid off 9 months after moving.
