Layoffs aren’t just about numbers; they’ve been targeting competent and skilled people. In fact, being experienced seems like an additional disadvantage now. I understand that good workers are more expensive, but don’t they generate more profit in the long run? I’m struggling to see the logic behind many of these decisions. I get the reasoning when it comes to immediate numbers, but what about the long-term impact?

Low performers are always put up first, but don’t always get them the numbers they need so the cuts sometimes go deeper.
This high performer is SO grateful my position was eliminated while I was on medical leave bc if a blood clotting issue related to the COvID vaccine insisted by Elevance Health, or else they would consider employees resigned if they didn't comply.
The Carelon BH acquisition/merger was and continues to be as mismanaged as the Value Options Beacon Options buy out bc Beacon was allowed to manage the merger.
Leaving the culture that breed incompetence and burn out or get rid of top talent seems as if it's being poised for a buy out likely UHC? Likely Gail's job all along? Your life will not be worse if you are laid off. You health and life actually may become much more freeing, healthy and happy.
I doubt they are good performers or they would not be let go. Stop kidding yourself that the people being let go are qualified. Ask them how long it takes them to find another job. Way overpaid and under qualified. Everyone is clutching their pearls on this board because they know the job market is tough right now and if you get laid off it’s the very few who will get an equally good paying job. So yeah… do the minimum and get yourself fired. Great advice. I’ve been looking for almost a year and while I thought the company wasn’t always great to work for now I’d love to have my job back as what’s out there is way worse. Just saying, it’s great to complain and think it’s better elsewhere. I’m telling you it’s not. I’d go back in a second and be grateful
It’s not about performance, it’s all about the mighty dollar. Just another cog in the wheel.
And replacing them with cheaper/ less qualified people in the philippines.
It has nothing to do with competence or long-term success of anything. People who managers and leadership don't like personally are being riffed in a lot of cases. It is all about protecting and being protected to increase the chances of longevity at this point.
