Why do y'all think the AAR asked for 1 man crews? It's a win win for the shareholders, loss for everyone else. If traffic stays the same that's half as many people needed. If traffic drops, still half and they'll call it "reflection of the market".

Norfolk Southern Railway (NS) will eliminate international intermodal service on more than 20 routes along the US East Coast, including trains between the Port of Virginia and the key inland hub of Memphis, due to insufficient container volumes.

The service changes will take effect May 31, according to a notice NS sent to customers that was obtained by the Journal of Commerce. The railroad did not make a formal public announcement but confirmed the details.

These tarriffs are a bad idea. They amount to no more than a national sales tax. They are a regressive tax also because the less you earn, a greater percent of your earnings goes towards the tax. The importers were never going to pay this tax. It was always going to be passed on to the end purchaser. But anyway, what do I know, I'm just a Carman not an Economist.

The interconnectedness of the global supply chain means these tariffs create a ripple effect. A decline in international shipments hits trucking first, but the downstream impact on intermodal rail is inevitable. And the potential shift in agricultural buying patterns will be the 'final blow' for commodity shipments later this year. The railroads are set in motion for an extreme decline, even if the tarriffs were canceled today the ripples have already started and they'll only continue

Per Freight Waves, mass layoffs coming for trucking due to the trade war with China. Doesn't mention the Railroads but they will probably be next.

Large drop in container shipments to West Coast ports, little affect on NS, could be trouble by this summer.
