What happens in a situation like this? When it's literally impossible to get everything done with the remaining number of people?

What a cliche. People are so used to being able to check their social media status, gossip with a coworker at their desk and all the free perks, they forget they’re here to work. I could see how it would be strange to actually be expected to do something. What is “impossible”, is your ability to stop whining about it. Mattel is top heavy and absolutely over staffed which is why ALL of us are in this situation. Along with outdated product and corporate greed. If you’re going to whine, quit. That simple. Otherwise, put your big girl pa-ties on and get your hands dirty.
I worked at FP years ago. The business was already in decline but working there, you quickly developed a genuine camaraderie with your fellow employees, I think it had a lot to do with the small town location; you’d run into people from work at the supermarket, at the park, out walking their dog etc. Colleagues would throw dinner or holiday parties at their houses or invite you over for a kids birthday. I’ve worked at many places where management attempted to foster a phony sense of belonging and loyalty by insisting all the employees were “family”, but FP was the only place where that sort of thing seemed to just occur naturally. Have no idea if that’s still the case, since like I said, that was many years ago, but it was a great place to work once upon a time.
The 120 laid off is only El Segundo. That’s 6%. Now apply they 6% to every other location including outside the U.S.
The 34,000 employee count includes all the hourly, low-wage, Asia factory workers, so that's the wrong denominator to use. The cost savings comes from the corporate workers.
Sadly, the folks in EA will be out of a job by years end. No doubt about it. I remember visiting that campus years ago and being in AWE of the ammenities and the mindset. People worked like a family, played competitive sports together, and really had this odd stepford symbiosis. Even AG had that vibe in a creepier Wisconnson way. ES? The mindset was way too superficial at first. I felt like there were people there that I would only see once in my career walking through the halls. 20 years later it hasn't changed, but the mindset is such an embrace of shareholder capitalism and absolutely no fun in the end product that even on an up year they'll lay people off just to appease shareholders and work leaner. The current layoff was only 120 employees out of 34,000. Not exactly an efficiency layoff.
LOL that guy and his deep dive BS. he literally couldn't design himself out of a paper bag. and the fake laugh oh my gosh the fake laugh. and you just know KC over there just wants shove him down the elevator shaft everytime they have to go to the tower together for a meeting. honestly he is the poster child for know nothing do nothing say a lot with literally nothing in it.

there is life outside of this h&ll hole. be patient find something else even in a different industry if your skills are transferable. I'd rather drive a bus than be fake w all these Barbie wannabes
They all know at a certain level that they don't do squat. so they have to insulate themselves with more people that also do less than squat to literally hide their incompetence. these people literally do not know what they are doing. they sit there thinking well we did that last year what should we do this year? don't we have some kind of anniversary for something? let's do a campaign around blind people with dogs that have MS, and so on....
these guys are literally just better dressed paint chip eaters. c- suite my aunt petunia's behind.
I once asked RD this once when he'd host departmental roundtable discussions. He laughed in my face, and said "he heard that a lot." I "quiet quit" that day. No more OT, because it just wasn't appreciated.
ah but CD wrote such a nice praise piece for this fall's toy line. his wad of BS was out for everyone to read on linkedin. takes skill to sling that fecundity after you just shanked your org. but its ok i guess cos hes gettin his bonus. hope you sleep well.
you do what you can do in the time they give you. 8 hrs a day. What isnt done today, can be worked on tomorrow.
The remaining team will burn out and move on. Execs don't care, as long as they are getting their millions and making money for the shareholders.
