Thread regarding USAA layoffs

Another round next week

If layoffs continue next Wednesday, what about the teams that were already impacted? Can we consider ourselves safe?

Keep telling yourself that. USAA gives 2 craps how much work there is as clearly outline dby the consent order if they can save a penny your job will always be at risk.

I don’t think more layoffs will happen next week. However, I do believe 2 more rounds will happen before year’s end, probably July and October.

Like somebody else posted, member contact is generally considered safe. They need as many monkeys as they can to press the feeder bar to get their food pellet. Of course there’s nothing concrete that can dictate this, but it’s just been my experience is all. If you’re still with the company and plan on staying for a bit, it would be To your benefit to post out and post soon

Why do so many of you think there will be more next week?

A couple different reasons why they do this in tranches and not all at once.

  1. For optics, if they layoff 5,000 employees at once the news picks up on it and it looks bad on the company, especially when they have been given tax breaks for "creating" jobs
  2. For morale, doing this in smaller sets helps mitigate the bad press and the employee sentiment
  3. HR staffing, no way they could handle the amount of paperwork needed for thousands of layoffs at once
  4. Balance sheet, If you have to pay hefty severences this would be a major hit to their quarterly balance sheet, easier to spread it out

If your direct team was already impacted, its been my experience they are "safe" for now.

As for why USAA would have multiple consecutive rounds of layoffs, I'm starting think HR can only manage so many at a time.

For bank employees, no one is safe, except for probably member contact, they’re about 90% safe. I knew a few seniors in member contact that were part of last years June layoffs.
