Thread regarding ConocoPhillips layoffs

McKinsey Consultants

Welp that’s it’s everyone. COP has contracted and hired McKinsey Consultants. Let the layoffs begin.

I got roped into helping on the bcg assessment. Was not impressed. Is there a consultant group that actually knows our industry? Bcg was a waste of $

Paid for BCG and gave an answer they didn’t like

Paying for McKinsey to give a different answer

Bain is in negotiations to shoot their shot

McKinsey did a great job over at P66. Charged 10s and 10s of millions and saved 10s of thousands. Probably lose money when they have to hire a bunch axed right back.

I’ll tell you what…they’ll never find me in storage B.

COP has had McKinsey working on projects every year for the last 10 years.
The OP is just guessing why they might be hired, but I would not assume anything worse than what was already going on with BCG.

IS anyone seriously surprised by this? We just had the second acquisition in 5 years. We have "leadership" that can't make decisions without consulting with consultants about who to consult. And we have a CEO that is only interested in boosting his and his pals' bank accounts in anticipation of the crumbling economy brought on by his orange pal.
The future's not so bright.

Hired 2 big consulting companies and pay them big bucks for the same results are just contradictary with what the VCIP email says “avoiding redundancy and risk-averse” culture. Big applause to management. Walk the talk, hey.

Was this posted by an outsider? Has anyone even confirmed there's truth to this?

ConocoPhillips. Why pay for something once, when you can pay twice? That makes it twice as good, no?

McKinsey and BCG is lazy leadership hiring a bunch of hacks to do their job for them. They’ll have a few mediocre ideas they ripped off other operators but the guarantee is that they will recommend headcount reductions. IMHO, any leaders recommending these management consultants should be replaced with people that can do the management job.

I don't know if this is fear mongering or I'm ignorant. If it's the latter, I'm open for it to be explained.

They already hired Boston Consulting. The results of that = layoffs, as announced. So... what's this you speak of? Another consulting firm to say the same thing? Is this something no one expected over the past 5 months?
