Word is they’re diggin’ into people’s past education and all that this time.
Me? I got into Chevron off the back of my graft in the Middle East. No fancy degrees or owt like that — but I ran ten gas trains with nowt but a hamster, an elastic band, and two lads who barely knew which way was up.
I’m in one of the top roles in the department now — though, to be fair, they stripped half my responsibilities after a proper ba--s-up on my end. Still, I’m chucking out new ideas and can’t help thinking… will they suss me out for the co-k-ups, or d’you reckon I can blag me way through another round?

I’m buildin’ me big new house, drivin’ top-end motors — livin’ the dream. Truth is, I couldn’t give a toss about the common folk, long as the cash keeps rollin’ in.
I join networks to look like I care, then let the bullies do me dirty work. Been pullin’ this off for 15 years and counting — and guess what? I’ll probably be the one pickin’ who gets the jobs round here. So, if you’re smart, you’ll come kiss the ring and sort me out with some pricey gifts.
what a dou--e!
You’re definitely not the type of person we need. This isn’t Gillig@n’s Island! Well not all of it!
Unfortunately, failed leaders will be taking their handpicked teams with them. If you don’t know the individual that will represent you, then quite frankly you are h@sed. It’s unbelievable what they let happen to a once prestigious Oil Company.
Useless incompetent people like OP are why the company needs to clean house. Does anyone actually have any more doubt or questions?
It’s all about who you know, just ask Hamroic W.
Tony Stark was able to build a gas train in a cave! With a box of scraps!
Ignorant, self serving leaders like OP is the reason we are in this mess in the first place.
No. Absolutely No
All about who you know. When the decision makers sit in the room, they only look at your name. That’s it.
Working your a-s off, past successes, pulling miracles out of your a$$ do not really matter now. Too many new inexperienced people who really know nothing about how to get something difficult done or run an operation involving motivating hundreds of hard charging men and women. Chevron is becoming a private equity fund with all the 'doers' working for someone else. Might be better off as a contractor and concentrate on building a small business. You'll be happier in the long haul.
If this reorg is anything like how McKinsey did Shell, they are looking at Talent Cards only. Which does include past education. It might count against you.
And totally understand where you are coming from. I had guys with a heck of a lot more common sense and know how than my fellow “fork and kn--e school” brethren.
Get past this hump, go get a degree so it’ll be one last thing to worry about.
